If we include judgment, in- dividual and team progress in abilities, aggressiveness, and desire, the season picture is not nearly as bleak. Two early wins in the season gave us the desire for more, but the problem of putting the ball throught the basket plagued us continually. Not until the closing weeks of the season did the games progress with team effort and spark with aggressiveness that we had been searching for since early season. Near wins over Madison and Salem gave us new perspectives for the remainder of this season and, hopefully, for coming seasons. Thus did Mr. Knight, the eighth grade coach, summarize the 1967-1968 basketball season for the eighth grade basket- ball team. The experience that the Jets squad gained this year will be invaluable to them in the future. They proved themselves good representatives of our school and their pep and go was a vital aspect in a successful season. COACH: MR. BASKETBALL GRADE NINE, COACHES: MR. LASATER, MR. BECK The freshman basketball teams of the Shields Junior High School enjoyed another successful year in athletics. The freshman teams are broken into two teams, the Purple and the White, both teams playing separate schedules. During the year for special games there is a combination of both teams. The thought behind two freshman teams is to allow as many boys as possible to participate, thus being fairly sure not to miss any varsity prospects. Mr. Lasater coached the White team, and completed the season with ten wins and one loss. Mr. Beck coached the Purple team and his season record was fifteen wins and two losses. Both coaches are looking forward to another fine season in athletics. BASKETBALL GRADE SEVEN. COACH: MR. DARREL BARNETT MANAGERS: RON MEEK, STEVE ROEMMEL The 7th grade basketball team enjoyed a very successful season. The boys worked hard and all of the team members played in many of the games. Seven boys started on the first team at different times during the season. Although not tall, hustle and drive led to victories over larger teams. These boys with continued hard work and good attitude should make a record which both the boys and the school can be proud.
