,Zi ,X A 'wry' CLASS OFFICERS Raymond M1lls Prcszdent Peter Uhchney Vzce Preszdent lean Goss Secretary Ioan Krothe Treasurer Sen1or Class H1StOPY How well we remember September 5 1941 when 151 students en tered the halls of Sh1cksh1nny H1gh School as freshmen ust be1ng fresh men was 1n1t1at1on enough we d1d not need a ceremony Our f1rst so c1al event was the get acqua1nted dance wh1ch proved very successful We had l1ttle f9SllV1ty after that dance for on December 7 the apanese attacked Pearl Harbor and plunged our country 1nto war Later 1n the year des1r1ng to show our dramatlc ab1l1ty we presented a llttle sklt HIS F1rst Date The Cast cons1sted of oan Krothe Rose Marle H1ll and George Balmt Some of our classmates left school and we completed the year w1th 133 students Gur sophomore year we started XVltl'1 an enrollment of 107 wh1ch be fore the term came to a close had d1m1n1shed to 81 ThlS year was memor able for we were now 1n a new and modern school bu1ld1ng the GZIFISOH Memorxal H1gh School w1th l1ght a1ry rooms a good vent1lat1ng system an aud1tor1um and a gymnas1um A Student Counc1l was organlzed and representat1ves were chosen from each class The representat1ves of the sophomore class were Mur1el Evans Harold Mclsaughlm Raymond M1lls and Rose Mar1e H111 Several clubs vxere organ1zed and many sophomore names appeared on the membersh1p l1sts Our jumor year took us up the th1rd rung of the ladder of knowledge The 75 of us who returned 1n the fall had the pr1v1lege of gettmg that popular d1sease called un1or1t1s That gave us the rlght to look askanct at sophomores and freshmen forgetful that just yesterday we too were 1ncluded IH that category Toward the end of the term vxe produced a play called The Old School Splflt under the d1rect1on of Mr Harvey Our 1un1or year was one of study and med1tat1on as the long honor rolls of that t1me bear vutness The only soc1al event was the yun1or sen1or prom 1n honor of the graduat1ng class The sen1ors gladly adm1tted that we surpr1sed them 1n the excellence of our enterta1nment Our most cher1shed dreams were reallzed when we became sen1ors w1th an enrollment of 64 Th1s school year was an eventful one Our class play HIS Ozark Cousm d1rected by MISS Martm agaln dld credlt to the ab1l1ty of the part1c1pants Cheerleaders were chosen from the sen 1or class and Gertrude Bugno was appoxnted capta1n Throughout the sports season they carr1ed out the1r a1m to st1mulate school Splflt Our CIOWHIHQ achlevement vxas 1n basketball ohn MOllf0f1S Peter Ul1chney Robert Capece and oseph Castelh d1st1ngu1shed themselves as players and brought honor to the class and to the school The war was st1ll on and two of our boys Edvxm Ko1akosk1 and Robert Capece answered the call to arms All too soon our last year of school was draw1ng to a close and class n1ght and commencement were upon us There was a t1nge of sadness as vue sald farevx ell to the school vue had loved so well and to the teachers and classmates w1th vxhom we had forged stronq l1nks of fr1endsh1p 1 Twelve l I Y v - A 3 -.
