We dedicate it to Mr. Miller in acknowledgement of his interest in us as students, his wise counsel in solving our problems, and his assistance in all our activities, especially in planning and directing the various functions in connection with graduation: to Mr. Cobb in appreciation for his fine example of sportsmanship, for promoting great athletic interest in our community by his expert supervision of the sports program, and for his untiring effort to secure a place in the Wyoming Valley League for our bas- ketball varsity. Thanks to Mr. Van Ronk's capable leadership, the band fumished a pleasant surprise to spectators at the Armistice Day parade in Wilkes-Barre, Although it com- peted with the bands of larger schools, the Shickshinny High School band was outstanding in appearance as well as in performance. The combination of attractive uni- forms and peppy rendition of favorite numbers elicited laudatory comments when the band played at a meeting of the teachers of lower Luzerne County held in our audi- torium. The musical entertainment between the acts of the junior and senior class plays was a welcome addition. Its carefully selected and well rendered compositions greatly enhanced the audience's enjoyment of the com- mencement exercises, The most outstanding activity of the band was the presentation of a concert at which thc seniors received service letters. For its fine record, the band is indebted to Mr. Van Ronk who is substituting for Mr. Cumow, the former band leader. now serving in the army, The Twirlers Skillful twirling peppy marching and natty uniforms have won much favorable comment for these girls They have exhibited their grace fulness in street parades and at various school functions They added the final note of color and attraction to the band concert with a com plicated and difficult routine This was made possible by the special practice period with the band every Friday morning The two captains did a fme job of leading and the drum majorette was unexcelled m stmttmo The girls have provided a fine example of what can be ac complished by hard work and cooperation Mary Bloss Edna Gritsavage Mary Mmgoia Mary Lou l-'slick Grace Smith Rose Marie Hill lulia Ricci Betty Malxtoris Loretta Kropiewnicki The Choir The girls gowned choir organized under the leadership of Miss Frances Shipman two years ago has grown in size and in excellence until it is now one of the most outstanding organiza tions of which our school can proudly boast The musical interest of the students and the popularity of the group IS proved by the fact that although the membership has reached a total of forty four girls Miss Shipman has a long waiting list of those who desire to take the places to be vacated by the seniors upon graduation Every public appearance of the girls choir has been enthusiastically received and thorough interpreted selections appropriate for the oc casions at the Christmas and Easter programs at the commencement exercises and at a con cert in which the band choir and twirlers par tlcipated Its repertoire includes such beautiful and well known compositions as the Ave Mana The Rosary The Wedding of the Painted Doll The Desert Song and The Green Cathedral Membership in this organization has given the music minded girls of our school an op portunity to perfect themselves as vocalists and to become acquainted with the best m semi classical music Thirty three e ' ' '.
