Shows Promise Sherrard’s 1971-1972 school year saw the initiation . of a new form of student gov-; ernment. The school senate replaced the former student council. This system has prov- en to be a more efficient and orderly system of self- government. In place of the class meet- ings, class senates handle the business for each class. The class senate consists of one senator for every ten class members. This new system of representation has been a step forward in the promotion of Igood government. The Student Senate promoted enthusiasm for this year’s Homecoming. Parle Officers are Cindy Dhaemers, Vice-Presi- dent; Linda Yeater, Secretary-Treasurer; and Greg Castrey, President. These changes are indicated by this year’s smaller membership in the Sherrard chapter. Although the num- ber of members has dropped, the chapter has remained active. Members acted as hostesses at open houses during National Education Week. Some members student-taught at lower grade levels. Sherrard F.T.A.’ers participated in the Blackhawk Division with other chapters in the Quad City area. Sherrard’s own F.T.A. president, Kathy Docherty, served as Attendance Secretary. Meetings were held each month to plan activities. Highlight of the year was a panel discussion on student-teacher relationships. The panel consisted of Mr. Billups, Mr. Schulte, Kathy Docherty and Sherrie True, Student Senate president. Moderator was Mr. Swegle, chapter advisor. Members staged an after-game dance in January to finance a trip to the state convention in Springfield during April. Connie Schriver was nominated for State Secretary of F.T.A., and the election was to be held at the convention. Becky and Cassie show Mr. Swegle the posters they made for the soc hop. 109 These Voices Unite to First Row: Lori Hartman, Candy Isaacson, Ann LaDue, Claudia Taylor, Teresa Laktas, Robin Rowe, Donna Carlson. There is the nervous, clumsy Anastasia, 94-ycar- old senile grandma, and the has-been-actor son who is out to kill mommy for her money. Complicating his poisonous plans arc the interruptions of a stage-mother and William Uggims. The latter, although blind, is the mainstay of UTBU. (Unhealthy to be Unpleasant). Its purpose is to stamp out sadism and cruelty by its own sadistic method of gift-wrapped bombs. Madge informs Uggims that the next ease will be that of J. Francis Uggims. Anastasia and Shirley cling together as their tormentor, J. Francis, enters the room. Shirley and Connie try to push Anastasia into a courtship with Eugene Boyer. Presented UTBU, a Farse J. Francis tries to get the blood into his senile mother’s brain. Miss Blank sings as though in Carnegie Hall while Shirley and Connie listen. Uggims presents a gift-wrapped package to the dominating, stage- mother Valerie. As J. Francis’ antique Oscar looks on, Jimmy plays “La Donna E Mobile” for Miss Blank. 119 Could this be the lethal dose of ethkydythkyfithkalide. After bombing J. Mrs. Dudley is the expressionless housekeeper who doesn’t hide her fear of Hill House. The first to arrive is Elcanorc who has witnessed strange phenomena. Exotic Theadora’s experience was with E.S.P. Luke’s only interest was curiosity. Dr. Montague is the scientist who is making a study of the occult. Mrs. Montague, accompanied by Arthur, came to assist her husband in his research. Mrs. Dudley announces that she prepares meals and cleans rooms but always leaves before dark. 'i Mrs. Montague rambles on about mysterious findings while the others occupy themselves. Mrs. Montague and Arthur arrive to help reach the median spirits of the house. The Haunting of Hill House Luke and Theadora say goodbye as Eleanore leaves Hill House. The other members of the party realize too late that the house has already grasped her mind as they watch her in her car speeding towards a tree while Hill House laughs on. Eleanore tells of being forced by some means to climb the tower stairs. Dr. Montague then tells her she must leave because Hill House is beginning to control her mind. Theadora soothes Eleanore after the house contacts her by laughs and knocks. Hill House communciates only with Eleanore. The coaches, Mr. Holmer and Mr. Heimann, were to teach the fundamentals of football such as blocking, tackling, and running. The season lasted for a duration of six weeks. We bought a full line of good equipment for them with 69 boys turning out to participate. The practices were held behind the Sherrard Grade School. Three intramural games were played in which everyone participated. It is hoped that this pro- gram will help to improve the high school program. 162 From 8 till 3 Becomes an Everyday Routine JUNIOR HIGH SEVENTH GRADE-First Row: Mrs. Lilliman, Tom Cottrell, Cynda Lowe, Roger Hargrave, Kevin Carver, David Hintermeister, Steve Gulley, Jim Almquist, Jon Davis, Keith Holdsworth.
