He remains to re- turn, the only survivor. He will begin to recapture those lost years. Through his thoughts and Anne’s diary you will be able to live those years in Amsterdam. Mr. Frank When told to burn everything relating to the past, Miep asks, Burn this? Peter's cat Mouschi influences Anne and Peter's friendship. 48 Anne examines in delighted silence the diary she has alway longed for. Though it is necessary to keep quiet during the day, Anne can release her pent-up energy at night. Mrs. Van Daan enjoys having someone listen to the stories of her girlhood romances. Mr. Kraler brings food, supplies, and the word that the out- side situation is worse. With Mr. Frank's consent, Mr. Kraler brings the elderly dentist Mr. Dussel to live with them. 49 In the privacy of Peter's room, Anne and Peter can talk without adults present. For the past two years we have lived in fear. Now we must live in hope. The Green Police have discovered them. 50 The food shortage doesn’t stop Mr. Van Daan from stealing what food there is. In spite of everything, Anne still believed that people were really good at heart.
