New York, New York November 28, 1988 Dear Susie, I was ecstatic upon receiving your informative epistle from London. I am still overwhelmed at the brilliant response of voters supporting our former classmate, Rick Basala, for President of the United States. I have heard rumors from well- informed sources that Donna Kirkland will continue as Secretary of State. It has also come to my attention that our fellow compatriot, Maurice DeBackere, was elected to Illinois' highest position other than Mayor of Chicago--Governor. As you stated in your letter, you were indeed fortunate to spend a weekend in Paris at the U. S. Embassy as the guest of Ambassador Pat Nimrick. Upon arriving in New York from my winter residence in Honolulu, I chanced to meet Roger Franck at Kennedy Airport. Over a cup of coffee, we discussed his adventures as a continental card shark. He told of seeing Damaris Maynard and Judy Scovil, the top choreographers of our time, in another of their Broadway hits. I recently gave a dinner party for former classmates, who are now New Yorkers. I was fortunate to have Alene Thompson Mary McManus, and Sandy Isaacson attend. They are usually continent hopping in their professions as interior decorator, Conrad Hilton's chief dietician, and editor of Ladies' Home Journal, respectively. Steve Zwicker gave us some marvelous betting tips. As you know, he is a veterinarian at Aqueduct Park. Joe Docherty entertained us with his harrowing experience as pitcher for the New York Mets in the last World Series. The famous Vic Miller discussed the trials and tribulations of his latest role as Shakespeare's Falstaff. Gale Swinford, a teacher in Greenwich Village, brought us up to date on the latest chil psychology. I also invited Jerry Parchert who made headlines recently when he won Brink's, Inc. in an acey ducey poker game. I was happy to hear that the Wall Street executive, Ron Schnowske, and his wife, the former Iona Hergert, were at the hospital, awaiting in eager anticipation the birth of their 12th daughter. Dr. Don McSparin, obstetrician, was at Iona's side that night. In the want ads the other day, I read that Bob Cole is giving free demonstrations for his new and used crutches business. Bob DeGreve's Employment Agency is finding jobs for Sherrard graduates of '64, '66, '67, and '68, I have received word from some friends in Chicago that Johnny White has been promoted to Fire Chief. In a letter from my hometown minister, Tom McGuire, I learned of some more people of interest. Guess who the princi- pal of Sherrard High is! The one, the only- -John Meister. He and Mrs. Gregory's replacement, Barbara Mack, run good olcn SHS with the assistance of Bob White. Bob, who efficiently runs the English department, and his wife, the former Jennie Patterson, have 12 bouncing boys. I think there is an unwritten agreement between them and Ron and Iona. The Reverend went on to tell me that the floral gardens of Gary Cameron truly enhance the area where the Sherrard dump formerly was. Lynn Chard keeps everyone trimming and toning in her new reducing salon. Did you know that our own Jane Clarke is Boy Scout Den Mother of the Year? Paul Frank, head of the complaint department at Zayre's, has a perfect job with his amicab personality. Swedona also should be proud of its new music conservatory run by Delpha Anderson and Sharon Borst. Vocal and piano lessons are their specialties. Tom had also received word from a close relative that Dave Zwicker and his I-lamps were sent Australia for research purposes. Jamie Mueller and his sheep accompanied Dave and friends. Kathy Anderson is another Sheila Graham when it comes to the gossip she writes for the Matherville Gazette. Linda Cather easily helps her gather the news since she is the Illi Belli Teli operator. Deputy Sheriff Jeff Langston still relentlessl upholds the law in Rock Island County.
