I I 1'- W 1 1 :1 L Xa New York, New York November 28, 1988 Dear Susie, I was ecstatic upon receiving your informative epistle from London. I am still overwhelmed at the brilliant response of voters supporting our former classmate, Rick Basala, for President of the United States. I have heard rumors from well- informed sources that Donna Kirkland will continue as Secretary of State. It has also come to my attention that our fellow compatriot, Maurice DeBackere, was elected to Illinois' highest position other than Mayor of Chicago--Governor. As you stated in your letter, you were indeed fortunate to spend a weekend in Paris at the U. S. Embassy as the guest of Ambassador Pat Nimrick. Upon arriving in New York from my winter residence in Honolulu, I chanced to meet Roger Franck at Kennedy Airport. Over a cup of coffee, we discussed his adventures as a continental card shark. He told of seeing Damaris Maynard and Judy Scovil, the top choreographers of our time, in another of their Broadway hits. I recently gave a dinner party for former classmates, who are now New Yorkers. I was fortunate to have Alene Thompson Mary McManus, and Sandy Isaacson attend. They are usually continent hopping in their professions as interior decorator, Conrad Hilton's chief dietician, and editor of Ladies' Home Journal, respectively. Steve Zwicker gave us some marvelous betting tips. As you know, he is a veterinarian at Aqueduct Park. Joe Docherty entertained us with his harrowing experience as pitcher for the New York Mets in the last World Series. The famous Vic Miller discussed the trials and tribulations of his latest role as Shakespeare's Falstaff. Gale Swinford, a teacher in Greenwich Village, brought us up to date on the latest chil psychology. I also invited Jerry Parchert who made headlines recently when he won Brink's, Inc. in an acey ducey poker game. I was happy to hear that the Wall Street executive, Ron Schnowske, and his wife, the former Iona Hergert, were at the hospital, awaiting in eager anticipation the birth of their 12th daughter. Dr. Don McSparin, obstetrician, was at Iona's side that night. In the want ads the other day, I read that Bob Cole is giving free demonstrations for his new and used crutches business. Bob DeGreve's Employment Agency is finding jobs for Sherrard graduates of '64, '66, '67, and '68, I have received word from some friends in Chicago that Johnny White has been promoted to Fire Chief. In a letter from my hometown minister, Tom McGuire, I learned of some more people of interest. Guess who the princi- pal of Sherrard High is! The one, the only- -John Meister. He and Mrs. Gregory's replacement, Barbara Mack, run good olcn SHS with the assistance of Bob White. Bob, who efficiently runs the English department, and his wife, the former Jennie Patterson, have 12 bouncing boys. I think there is an unwritten agreement between them and Ron and Iona. The Reverend went on to tell me that the floral gardens of Gary Cameron truly enhance the area where the Sherrard dump formerly was. Lynn Chard keeps everyone trimming and toning in her new reducing salon. Did you know that our own Jane Clarke is Boy Scout Den Mother of the Year? Paul Frank, head of the complaint department at Zayre's, has a perfect job with his amicab personality. Swedona also should be proud of its new music conservatory run by Delpha Anderson and Sharon Borst. Vocal and piano lessons are their specialties. Tom had also received word from a close relative that Dave Zwicker and his I-lamps were sent Australia for research purposes. Jamie Mueller and his sheep accompanied Dave and friends. Kathy Anderson is another Sheila Graham when it comes to the gossip she writes for the Matherville Gazette. Linda Cather easily helps her gather the news since she is the Illi Belli Teli operator. Deputy Sheriff Jeff Langston still relentlessl upholds the law in Rock Island County. In Newsweek, I recently read of the marriage of Matherville's own Alice Kness to the King of Mesopotamia. John Hoff- man always seems to be making the news asf-og Motor Company's president. Jim Koester, the space-race pilot, is con- stantly making headlines the world over. It seems as if our class has settled in such scattered areas. For instance, I think Wayne Wardlow is still a combination hunter-explorer in deepest, darkest Africa. Is Gary Adams still the Yukon's star lumberjack? Mike Taets surprised every- one, including himself, when he became an archeologist in Egypt. Cliff Harker, a self-made millionaire, has retired to the Alps. Did you know that Bob Cutler is a judo expert in Japan? Bob Lewis recently discovered a ten pound topaz in Brazil that is worth approximately Sl. 98. He'll have better luck next time, Have you heard anything about the Starkist tuna fisherman, Gary Raatz? fl heard he accepted a bribe from Charlie Tuna.7 John Hajostek, that famous Honda race driver, is at the 'International Hill Climb. QQ magazine had a pictorial article about Marv Pace, the famous nuclear physicist. It also had a story by Butch Kirk- land on how to water-ski to Tahiti. Dick Ash, Oklahoma oil tycoon, gave tips on how not to spend money lavishly. The entertainment field has beckoned several of our classmates. Gene Pearson is the traveling stage manager for the Rockettes. You know how much he liked that type of thing. Susanne Sommers, manager of Holiday on Ice 1988, is having another money-making year. Terry White, coach at the University of Alabama, in his spare time has developed Richie Weihler into a long-lasting Olympic star. Richie need not worry, though, since he is well supplied with Prudential Insurance because of Mike Anderson's persuasive powers. The West Coast is well stocked with 1965 SHS graduates. For instance, Eddie Erickson runs Knott's Berry Farm. Sandy Olson has specialized in the beautification of Hollywood poodles. Carol Schmidt is a top-notch model for exclusive mink 'stole firms. Our class also has another model, Janet Robb, who models at Brother John's 4Robb, that isp Clothing Store. Did you know that Sue Laktas and Sherry Whan, psychologist and psychiatrist, respectively, have banded together in a joint office? Is Harry Strom still bartending at Dino's on Sunset Strip? I know Tom Spengler will never stop taking pictures for his calendars. If you're ever at the Brown Derby, stop and listen to Jerry Vogler's swingin' band. Linn Krebs has become a big potato rnan with his instant mashed potato farm in Idaho. Linda Mears and her husband are stationed in Juneau, Alaska. Several classmates have settled in Coyne Center. Dr. Linda Borst is still a dentist, but I hear in her spare time she is Header of an amateur drill team. Have you heard about Rose Foster and her Fanny IMay Candy Shop? Kay Koester is chief advisor to the Coyne Center PTA Pep IClub. I hear that Wanda Iverson is the head cashier at Eagle's. Becky McLaugh- Ilin is an accomplished flutist with the Coyne Center Philharmonic. I think that is all the news I have. Please write. Rhapsody in Stardust -Juniors Entertain Seniors at Prom The silvery moon was an enchanting background for Mary Anita and Steve. Linda and Joe with Susan and Roger were sitting at one of the candlelit tables. Terri and Paul enjoyed the refreshments as well as the Rhapsody in Stardust was carried out by star-studded pillars, blue stars on the walls, and blue musical notes. Everyone will re- member the twinkling archway and festive lobby. A sparkling rotating ball was suspended in the center of the ceiling among the silvery stars hung on blue crepe paper streamers. 73 Xlfqx Q4 g 1 Q .. sw f . in kg 1 x 'EQ S X x 4 X MMM .V .-M. vawffti: is 2 x f' 1 ' as I , f .Ng 5 X f X 5 yi BQ. 8 X E 2 i' U Pe, Rf 6' A35 Sl- Xia. wg if M X X if ' xx Jr fxgiikw x 11 ,25 Y A M Q sd,- . , 5 , ABHMQIQW les danced to the Nfl ' The Gym Became Part of a Celestial World Gale and Gary with Don and Dixie, also Ron and Iona, waited for the music to start. Maybe Miss Thelma was try- ing to get her niece Janet away from a certain boy in town and was trying to put Harold in Janet 's heart. That certain boy Herb, though, loved Janet enough to disguise himself as a hillbilly and work for Gabriel, the cabin's caretaker, under the eagle eye of Miss Thelma. Then if things weren't bad enough, Herb 's father came to look for his son. It took an accident to solve the problems of the wacky house party. This is the laziest, orneriest man in the whole world, Gabriel Pennington. He's always loafing His poor wife Zerusia fiona Hergerty does all- the work, And this is their shy babe-in-the-woods daughter Daisy l l Mae QA1ene Thompsony . ,, :i .
