I, EILEEN DAVIS, will my love for one certain boy to SUSAN BLOOMQUIST, who can't seem to decide on any certain one. We. JIM DORR and BARBARA DORWAY, will our talent for breaking up to any Juniors who feel they have been going steady too long. Countdown to Success The time is drawing near when our great ship will blast off into orbit. Tension mounts as graduation draws near, but the countdo wn for this momentous flight began four years ago. Then we were lowly freshmen, awed by the strangeness and size of Sherrard High School. Little did we realize then 'that this was the beginning of the countdown which would, four years later, launch us on our chosen careers. Our introduction to high school was a terrifying initiation. The long underwear and overalls which the girls wore got rather hot before the day was over. We were all relieved to get out of our hot clothes, remove the make-up and smelly stuff from our faces, and put on our party clothes. The party which the seniors gave us was a welcome relief after that long and frightening day. The first great decision we made was electing our freshman class officers. We elected Terry Dawson as president and Larry Cederstrom as vice-president. Charlene Kness served as secretary-treasurer. and Eileen Davis and Hank Dryoel represented us on the Student Council. They all helped to lead us on the first vital step of our countdown. A memorable highlight of that year was Homecoming. We worked hard on our float, 'Strike Up a Victory, and were very proud when the judges handed us first prize. We decided .then that we were going to win the prize every year. For our first time in the Homecoming Court, we elected Marsha Vogler and Ken Schwarz as our attendants. We had many new experiences that year. We were given new responsibilities and learned to make our own deci- sions. This knowledge gave us a firm and steady foundation on which to base ourselves for our next great step, our sophomore year. This year our arrival at Sherrard was not so frightening. We were no longer poor lowly freshman but 'sophisticat- ed' sophomores. Instead of cringing whenever we saw a senior, we went about eagerly renewing old acquaintances and making new friends. Initiation was much more enjoyable now that we could just watch instead of participate. For our officers this year we elected Ken Schwarz as president and Betty Hauger as vice-president. Judy Zwicker served as secretary, and Carita Rhodenbaugh was our treasurer. To help govern the school, we chose Marsha Vogler and Keith Docherty as Student Council representatives. Homecoming this year wasn't quite as lucky for us as last year. The parade was rained on, and our float, Happy Victory to You, seemed to fare worse than the others. The colors on our cake all ran together and rather ruined the effect. This time we had to be content with Honorable Mention. The rain made the football game rather soggy, too. We all dried out for the dance, though, and enjoyed our- selves. We were very proud of our attendants. Kathleen Slavish and Jim Dorr. The second sem ester saw a hard-fought election campaign. We were to elect one of our members to serve as Student Coun c il vice-president his junior year and president his senior year. To obtain this position meant both a great honor and much hard work. When the campaign ended, we elected Keith Docherty and all were satisfied with the choice. We made another great advancement this year. As our work became harder, we learned to study and regulate our time. We also learned to work together as a class. These accomplishments helped us greatly in the final two steps of our countdown. Upon our return -to school in our junior year, we began the final and more exciting half of our project. We were now upperclassmen with the problems and responsibilities which we had formerly left to others. It was more impor- tant to elect competent people as our officers, for this was the year we must raise most of the money for our senior
