We won the Miss Personality contest for the best presentation of our Queen in competition with all the high schools in this area. A Congressional hearing on Indian Education headed by Congressman Meade (Washington) and Veysey (California) was held at our school. We were accepted as one of thirty one schools in the United States, Canada, and Germany as a member of the Model Schools Project. This project is in con- nection with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. We began the Model Schools Projects with emphasis on individual instruction in reading, science, typing, math and art. A top-notch after school program in recreaton and arts and crafts has sub- stantially reduced the number of drop-outs. A second reading lab was established. The reading lab headed by Mrs. Ruby Shepherd was selected as a site visit as an examplary compensatory education project under the Office of Education (HEW) and Columbia University. Cross Country Team won the GIF (Southern Section) Championship - placed fifth in state. Girls ' Bowling Team won the championship in the GESP League. Girls ' Basketball Team (on going to press) are tied for first place in the Inland Valley League. This page sponsored by Hilda Morgan As we go to press we wish to take this opportunity to thank the many people who made this book possible to our many friends who sponsored us, to the ASB, Mrs. Brenn, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Morgan, and many others who cooperated.
