EDQQTL l E QILIJ Aunt Nina's Friendship Quilt Did I know the class of 1941, did vou ask?Uell,I should say I did A wonderful class trey was, too but they wa r't any better nor any that class? Goodne s no' I've never belonged to any class but I was a friend of 'em all My husband was janitor and I uster sweep the floors for him Some of 'em I d1dn't 'now so well and others I knew from the time they started in ISIS lS an old Iriendship quilt that tdey gave me for a rememberance of them, mighty t ougntful of them I thought It's p etty near worn out but I can't give it to tne rag man or throw it away Some of the names I can scarcely read, and Places in it need patching There were twenty one in that class Some of taem climbed high on tne ladder of Fame, as tmey call it, an' some of ' m don't 'pear have clumb uite so high yet, but mabbe they will Some of 'em 1 rlch 'n some of em a1n't but that don't lake much difierence, seems to me, whether you're rich or poor, you can be jest as good one way as tother Fortune is a fickle dame anyway an' sometimes she smiles on some queer speoiments of humanity Well I su oose you would like to hear about some of them This is Eula Corliss s name She always wanted o b an aviatrix, but never dreamt she would 1hat's what she is tMOugn When she use to go to school, it was to far to walk and so her father had to come glt her She should have had her plane then and ridden to and from school, landing in Clark's fielf. I don't know but it would have been cheaper to walk, guess I'd rather, It would have saved her father a lot of trouble By the way do you recollect that Vera Sleeper was the anx1ous,worried member of this class? How she fretted over her school duties Well, Vera is now a hostess on one of our main air lines She is so devoted to her responslbllities as a hostess that she forgets to worry Virginia Atkinson had a dress just like this patch, She made it an' had a peice left over so hhe said that she would put it here and when I looked at it I'd remember her, She was the first woman command- er in the U. S. Navy on the U. S. S. Benson. She christened the ship- Gee, it was pretty, all nice and shiny. .4 .Ev ' ?'LQL f47!fL?y! ' s-, VTILFI K SW fl. Q'-L , 5 '. ,ll -. A ' 0 1.
