Barry couldn't understand why out of all the other girls in the world she would have to be a glamour girl. She must indeed be one, for if she weren't, why should she so obviously enjoy going places every night? His idea of the home he wanted some day was not just a place to stay between par- ties. The quiet of the afternoon was broken by a sharp scream Barry brought the car to an abrupt stop with a screeching of brakes and was out of the car before Patri cia could open her door She swiltly followed him into the house whence the scream had come A woman, apparently an lnvalid anxiously pointed t small Patricia found that it had fallen on a fruit Jar and was now so weak from loss of blood that it could only whimper She hurriedly plcked up the chlld and placed it on the table nQuick,Barry, get some boil n Jater while I find bandages and disinfectant N From the invalid she learned where these things we e kept, and was immediately washing out the wou d Bandaging it was not a difflcult task ince the wound was not deep It had bled badly because of the child's position Soon Patrlcla was rocking the baby to sleep w1th a gentle lull aby Barry standing in the opposite corner, saw what h thought was the girl he had been tryin to flnd for months she put the baby in its crib h came swiftly toward her, the woman who lay on the be , h asked, UPatric1a,this is you, isn't lt? Why did you hide e ind a cloak of glamour?' 'One of the first things I heard about you was that you al ways chose companions like myself I wouldn't have any chance of others,H replied Patricia. EVENING ON THE SEA The sun was golden as it set A lovely sight to see, As it sank behind the dark blue hills Of foam out on the sea Phen darkness came and in the sky The nEven1ng Star' shone bright, Far out upon the eastern shore The moon was huge and white The sails were opened at full width The waves would oft repeat The ocean's tales and mysteries Her song so soft and sweet No picture could an artist paint f nEvening on the Sea', Where ln the dark the waves do beat The ocean's melody As the stars be in to shine There is a 1Jstery, For the uaves shall play tonight It's nfvening on the Sea VY THOUJHT I always thlnk the cover of A book is llke a door Xhich opens lnto someone's house Where I've not been before And when I flnd a house that's dull I do not often stay, But when I f1nd one full of friends I'm apt to spend the day A plrate oi fairy queen Mav llft the latch for me, I always wonder, when I knock what velcomo there will he Llnnle Kennedy '42 REMEMBRANCE Four years ago, it eems not so, I came to Sherman High Oh, how I wished those years would go Instead of slowly creeping That was when I'd first begun I was quite shy and meek Till after I had stook alone That first and second week I had to wear a green neck tie A ribbon on my hair They called it 'nitiation They dressed me up for fair I grew a lot that year in height, I learned some new th1ngs,too That Seniors were alwa s in the right And didn't care for you We freshmen had a place down front There was a lot of space But always when we'd go up back They'd lead us to our place But now I am a senior, I wish I were a freshman Back front where I belong My hi h school days are over, The best da s of my years And when I thin of those good times My eyes fill up with tears Joe Hoy '40 'TAIW'T LOVE This loving bus1ness is a cinch When everytr1ng's all right, But some flnd love qulte difficult When skies are not so bright Q K X S ' o .
