Margaret Lewis A Better Looking School Are you satisfied with the appearance of your school buildingo Is it a pleasure to you to show your friends through the different rooms? I'm afraid not Perhaps you would feel exactly ashamed to do this, but, nevertheless, feel quite certain that you would experience no sense of pride, Why9 Because no one likes to see aisles strewn with paper desks covered with initials and pictures, or seats littered with disarranged books, pencils and various other nicknacks. These disorderly arrangements are always sure to attract the attention of visitors, even though we ourselves are not so apt to notice them. Just imagine a new building and an old one. How much more sanitary and attractive looking is the former: But that is just because it hasn't been abused. A school-room's appearance should improve with time in- stead of growing worse. There are many ways by which this is made possible. For instance, small tables and corner shelves may be added with trophies, class pictures, and various other ornamentsg book supplies can be increasedg waste paper bas- kets may be cheerfully draped in the school's colorsg a flower garden or a hedge or trees can be planted in the yard. All these things and a lot more are useful as well as attractive. But who is there to look after all these thingso I sug- gest that there be an able committee elected from the student body. A committee which is interested in the school and which would find some means of mild punishment for destructive per- sons. However, we can do our part by refraining from throwing Eiigrv al. So let's all keep these things in mind and try to make our school a better school. Madeline Ambrose NEARNESS AND BEHAVIOR IN OUR SCHOOLROOM During my two and one half years of high school, I have found that the room of our building appears to be much dirtier and more littered up with spit balls, erasers, and wads of paper, than it was in the grade schools. By the time night comes a person has a hard Job to walk up the isles of the main room Blackboard erasers, glass marbles, peppermints, and numerous other articles are fl5ing about the room, leaving a mark here and a large sc r or scratch there Thi all seems very strange to me Will we never grow up and learn to behave ourselves and not be destructive to school nropertyo Can we let the first frades be t us each day by keeping a neat school roomo The answer should be 'No we can't and we won't N Let' Join together and show them what we can do If a te cher is out of the room, or if a +eacher of the weaker sex is having a class and supervising in the main room both at once, should we take revenge on them and act out No we should not, this is the time when we should u e our manners and show self re pect not only for ourselves but for others Show them that you are trustworthy' In our schools we should show re pect lor our Janitors by keeping the paper picked up off the floor When you clean your desk our, don't dump all the paper on the floor in a heap or don't tear your notes up in little pieces and stuff them in someone's desk, later to be gotten on the floor If you can't carry your paper to the basket surely you have some neighbor or friend who can if you ask them There 1sn't sufficient behavior or neatness in our school to write a good five hundred word theme over, so let's all of us get together and improve our room, so that we could ea ily write a thousand word theme over it Gerald Merry DON'T LEAVE SCHOOL In m n ne and one half years of school life many chool To hear them tald one would thinl th t school an ordeal and teacher were ogres Now, I do not like of my life is school L C . . . .
