. 'w'-. , .- Each lifestyle attracts peoplc who share common interests, whether it be in academics, sports, social activities, or just relaxing. By joining together with a group expressing the same interests, cliques and fads were created. One fad that came into play was the preppie lookf, The prep syndrome consisted of everything from khaki pants to topsiders. Other items of the fad were Cheenos, dockside shoes, argyle socks, changeable belts, oxford shirts, ribbon ties Lacrosse Izods, and polo shirts. The British punk craze hit home with many SHS students. The style was the premier item that affected the student body. The punk scene was typified by fatigues, colored hair spray, safety pin earrings, tight-legged pants, and jungle print shirts. It also initiated the black, bronze, gold, and silver fashion boom. Some could be seen wearing outfits a far cry from punk, but that was the students, idea of new wave. Others clad themselves in shirts with band emblems and buttons. A few even showed their support of new wave by short hair cuts. The western scene was still holding strong in fashion competition with cowboy hats, boots, jeans, plaid shirts, and suede or leather vests. The sportswear scene included concert T-shirts Ocean Pacific ski and surf shirts sweatsuits and members only jackets. The sophisticated look also brought back a traditional look, with tuxedo wear, pleated pants tapered skirts, colored hose, flat shoes, and sport coats. A blast from the past fit in with a uniform lifestyle, with play-it-again knickers and mini-skirts enjoying a kicky comeback. On the flip side were surgical greens, leg warmers, and army fatigues. Other fashion waves indating the campus were accessories. Bandannas were popular and versatile, doubling as headbands, belts, and neckties. Interest in ties was renewed with narrow-multi-colored and bow ties serving as big items. Many of the stylish fashions we wore added spunk to the school, but somewhere, there is another fashion yet to be discovered. 9 9 9
