Students learn correct procedures for drawing floor plans, using a drafting machine, compass, triangle and the French curve. Many graduates are hired by area companies after completing the course. Junior Janice Harrell is the only girl in a drafting class, and as she stated, lt doesn't bother me because l'm friends with everyone. l took drafting to prepare for a career in drafting. 1. DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION Marketing Careers Enhance Educauon The Distributive Education course at Sherman High School offered students a chance to work in marketing occupations while they learned the necessary subjects to graduate. Grades ten through twelve were eligible to enroll in D.E. Sophomore students took part in pre-employment lab and juniors and seniors par- ticipated inthe Co-op program. , 'ATO earn money to get out of school early, and to buy a car are the reasons that junior Carla Southerland took D.E. Scott Holcomb stated that he took the class early to earn enough money to get a car and to get experience in working conditions. HEALTH OCCUPATIONS Medical Fleld Demandmg Opportunltles Vast The Health Occupation Cooperation Education Program ot worked half a day as assistants to physical therapists dentists, X Sherman High School was specifically for those students that wanted to get started in the health occupations field. Many students found vast medical opportunities for learning more about their chosen field at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospi- tal, Medical Plaza Hospital, dentist's and doctors' offices throughout the city. Curriculum for health occupation students was demanding and challenging. Besides developing their basic skills in a daily one hour class, students also attended two required classes and 1 . 3. 1. Seminars and area contests also gave students the opportuni- ties to exchange ideas with professionals and gain more knowl- edge about their chosen professions. When interviewed, senior, Vicki Nobles, like many other stu- dents enrolled in Health Occupations, stated I like helping and caring for other people and I plan to stay in this field of work after graduation. 2,
