Back to Basics Plus Drilling verbs, nouns, commas, adjectives, prepo- sitions, spelling, punctuation and literature into the minds of students was the Sherman High School English Departments goal this year. Aside from the traditional English I, ll, Ill, IV, and Advanced Placement, a college English course was offered on the Sherman High School campus for the first time. College English was designed to function as a col- lege class. Students attended classes three days a week for two semesters, one for literature and one for grammar and composition. The course not only helped prepare students for the college curriculum but it gave them the opportunity to receive college credits. Senior Karen Hendricks finds college English worthwhile because l'm beginning to comprehend what a college classroom is like and what to expect when l go to college. Sophomore Nancy Nicholson enjoys English this year because of the novels we are reading, and grammar is a little easier this year. Senior Mark Helms has learned how to read poetry and howto enjoy Beowolf stories. 1. Mark Mask has a startled look on his face as Miss Mildred Ben- son returns test papers. 2. Scott Holland and Melody Fine go over test grades with Miss Barbara Radar. 3. Mrs. Tonya Brown pas- ses out daily assignment to Beth Sills and David Fogle. 4. Mrs. Margie Wilson explains an autobiography to Bob Bowers, Laurie Flanigan, and Becky Nurre. 3, sa p., 2 10 Academics 'lllsiu-.funn-.,,,,,,
