Today's world brings together people of many languages and many races. If these are to live peacefully together, they must be able to commu- nicate with each other. ln the southwestern United States there are many Spanish-speaking people who form an integral part of the culture of the area. Latin Enables Students to Gain Appreciation of the Ancient World The purpose of teaching Latin at Sherman High is twofold: to enable students to understand the language and to give them an appreciation of the Ancient World. The value of the study of the Latin language has been a much discussed topic. Suffice it to say that it is of immense value to the students of languages lespecially the Romance languagesl, in the development of vocabulary and in the enriched apprecia- tion of literature both classical and modern.
