oreword . . . It was in 1917 even before Sherman High School was to what is now Piner junior High, that the first vias issued. that time Sherman was known as the Athens of North Texas. Four colleges were in operation then, as well as an opera house, the center of many cultural ac- tivities. Our community was widely known for its edu- S cational, cultural, and architectural achievements and was called the Athens of North Texas because it was in the A Grecian city of Athens that art, culture, and higher educa- tion had their beginnings. For this very reason, because Sherman was a popular center, the first volume of our yearbook was the ATHENIAN. in this, the fifty-second volume of the ATHENIAN, A iwe can bring to you a greater appreciation of the history of our yearbook, as well as capture the memories of this past year, we will have accomplished our purpose.
