M r. Walter Carpenter Principal E15 1 Sherman 1 High School Mr. Walter Carpenter is a native Shermanite and graduate of Austin Col- lege. He has served the Sherman public schools as a teacher and principal since 1937. Principal is Message The age in which we live is becoming more and more complex. Tremendous tech- nological changes have altered our standards of living. Many different groups are presenting various ideas about religious beliefs, governmental policies and moral standards in an effort to win the minds of all of us to a particular standard which their group supports. If we, as democratic people, are to survive not only as a people, but as a great nation, we must be educated to think independently and to determine the true values of using technological advancement to better our way of life rather than to destroy it. We must also learn to recognize the value of the individual and to respect his rights and dignity as a man. An interest in good government, high moral standards, and a firm faith in the Almighty will cause our lives as individuals to be fulfilled and the prosperity of our country to be assured. In the hands of you young people rests the future of our country. Prepare your- selves educationally and spiritually to make your future and the future of your country a bright one. I6
