We are the citizens of Sherman High School and as we look back we will see our lives at Sherman High filled with laughter and spirit of us students. We will remember passing through its halls and sitting in its classrooms, all of which will be memories of past experiences that will never be forgotten. As citizen after citizen graduates, marks and signs remain, reminding us of those who once attended and were proud to belong to its friendly and homelike surroundings. F lu. Senior Class Officers of the tional program at Sherman High School has through the years indentified the honor of graduation with high levels of competence, of social maturity, intellectual attainment, and moral development. The Seniors proved to be worthy of the best traditions of the past. Suddenly it loomed up in our paths like some kind of monster daring us to meet the final deadline for the 1963 ATHENIAN, As that final deadline was met a feeling of relief, yet loneliness swept over us. Our peace talks all ended in a stalemate with us pleading and Mrs. O'Neal, our faithful advisor, jumping up and down screaming, Final Deadline, March 8! Yi' Secrecy prevailed as picture taking began and the movement in the Publications Office was something out of a third rate mystery story. Trips were made to different places representative of Athens for picture taking . . . only to arrive at the destination just as the rain came down or some other obstacle became uncooperative. Meanwhile, Mrs. O'Neal was still mumbling something about a final deadline of March 8. Coffee Qblack of coursej and cokes became the password around the Publications Office. Peanut butter-candy bars-pickles-cheese sandwiches fall in onej became snacks between hamburgers. fAnd we doubt if there is a staff member around who can look a hamburger in the eyej We stayed after school for 1:00 A.M. sessions where we re-did sections when nothing would fit. By this time Mrs. O'Neal was sobbing weakly that the final deadline was March 8. Finally, we waved good-bye to the last bit of copy. Mrs. O'Neal, too exhausted to talk, waved her arms frantically in sign language to tell us that we had made that golden deadline, March 8. Our thanks go out to the students and teachers of SHS who were so cooperative and ready to help us. Pamela Poole Edilor Answer to Last Word To Whom It May Concern: Now that we're bald four hair having been torn out by the rootsj and we've all lost ten pounds Qsome gained, of course, but do note the above mentioned snack dietj we actually have regained a reasonable amount of sanity. We consider ourselves quite lucky to have come out alive. Our glorious Mrs. O'Neal actually did not have to keep reminding us of our final deadline. We really knew what we were doing. We must make mention of the dark, damp, and dreary Publications Office at midnight. It was miserable to say the least. We only hope that Mrs. O'Neal will grace us with a smile once again and forgive us for all the stupid, uncalled- for mistakes. If she will do this, we will forgive her for the weekends and school nights she made us spend at school. Enough is enough. If you ever care to make contact with us the journalists' heaven is the place to come. The Sunk, But Not Drowned Crew Staff Goofs! The staff has no reason to give for leaving out Leroy Griswold from his class sec- tion. Please forgive us any- way! ' 2.
