Located near the Munic- ipal Building, it is convenient as a meeting place, and has become important as the center of civic activities. Sherman High has served as the host for many district and state conventions. Speech Sherman High School offers two years of speech. First year speech offers the fundamentals of speak- ing, original speaking, interpretative speaking, debate, discussion, and special types of speaking. Second year speech is a study of drama, dramatics, radio, and television. Indus trial Arts The satisfaction of creating things with the hands and, at the same time, learning a skill or trade are two of the primary purposes of the Industrial Arts Department. Dis tributifve Education Distributive Education is a vocational program especially designed to teach high school students the fundamentals of retail, wholesale, and service -selling business. The students work on a co- operative basis with participating Businessmen. They usually go to school in the morning and work at their jobs in the afternoon. Foreign Language Foreign language tries to teach the customs and modes of the different countries, as well as how to speak, read, and understand the language. Indus trial Cooperative Training Students who take ICT go to school half a day and Work in their chosen field at a job the other half of the day. ICT gives to the students a start on oc- cupational trade training while still in high school. Areas included are electrical, labora- tory technicians, auto mechanics, nursing, carpentry, and many others. Art Emphasis on self-expression and an appreciation of art is gained through the study of art history. Art in everyday life, such as industry and advertis- ing, is studied. Art courses are open to all students in Sherman High. Choir The A Cappella Choir of Sherman High is Well-known for its many programs given for varius service clubs in the city as well as music concerts at Christmas and Easter for the students.
