SUPERINTENDENT It was our good luck that our Superintendent, Mr. R. L. Speer, was with us all during our high school years. It gave us a greater feeling of security to know that we had in charge of our school a man whose experience with school affairs made him very capable of seeing that our school maintained its highest standards during the difficult War years. A Greater Sherman High School is a program that was launched during the second semester of this year. To Mr. Speer we say, Thank you for having done so much in the sixteen years you have been with us to recognize as Superintendent for eight years, the first three requisites in our fourfold program: the provision of adequate physical facilities, a sound administration, and the provision of a highly- trained and well-paid facultyg and for what you contributed during the eight years you were Principal of the High School to the fourth requisite: a student body with high morale. PRINCIPAL Welcome back, Mr. Davis: Peace in our time brought back to us our Principal, whom we had not known personally but who, we did know, was on leave of absence to the United States Army. Mr. Davis came back to us as Captain Davis and we were just a little more proud of Sherman High School's contribution to the victory. Mr, Davis went into the service July 12, 1942, at which time he was sent to Miami Beach to a training school as a second lieutenant. He was sent first, following his training, to Randolph Field and then to Enid Army Air Field, Oklahoma, where he remained until, May, 1944. At that time he was transferred to Liberal Army Air Field, Kansas and stayed until August 23, when he was transferred back to Enid. On October , 1944, Mr. Davis was sent to San Francisco to a safety school for a month. The next month he spent at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center, training as a civilian personnel officer. At the end of the month's training there, he was returned to Enid Army Air Field where he remained until September 30, 1945, at which time he was separated from the service at Shephard Field. Mr. Davis returned to us on October 1, 1945, and has already made a valuable contribution to Sherman High School, with the cooperation of the Home Room Presi- dents' Cabinet, in the inauguration of the Greater Sherman High School program.
