Ki- Q ' .. glmman 40 7-efzfzett G The Bearcats opened their 1937 schedule with a very impressive victory over the Terrell Tigers, to the tune of 40-0. From the very start the Bearcats had the game well in hand. To start the ball rolling Brooks took the ball over for pay dirt after 10 minutes of play in the first quarter, after this the Bearcats weren't to be stopped. They scored easily in spite of fumbles and penalities. Touchdowns were made by Brooks, Wharton, Pratt, Pelly, Boaz, and Stone. glzefzman 40 qfzeenville O The Bearcats, fresh from their first victory, tackled a foe supposed to be alion, but which turned out to be only a lamb. This game saw the Bearcats in better form and with more precision. McGuire played a good defensive game against the Lions. He even went so far as to convert one Lion pass into a touchdown. The second string out-played the first in more ways than one. Touchclowns were made by Pelly, Wharton, Blankenship, Boaz, and McGuire. gkefzman I2 Dallas 7-eclfz O The Bearcats, still unscored on and undefeated, played their first out-of-town game in the Cotton Bowl. Heretofore this gridiron held a jinx, so to speak, over the Bearcats. The lack of air and tremendous pressure were always a dificulty which usually meant defeat. This jinx was broken, however, and we hope it will never mend. Brooks and Wharton made the only two scores of the game. glmefzman 7 Highland pafzlz 25 The Bearcats played one of the best defensive games of the year against the Highland Park Scotties, only to be beaten by a score of 25 to 7. Boaz played one of the best games of his career. The game was 7 to 6 until the last seven minutes of play in the last quarter, then the Highlanders let loose with a passing attack which netted 19 points. The only Bearcat score was made by lVillis, who got the ball on a lateral. gfzefzman 35 Gozsicana gtate Home 6 The Bearcats, after a week of hard drill, came back into their stride with a 35 to 6 victory over Corsicana State Home. The Home lads fought gamely but were out-classed from the first of the game. Braswell and Willis played their best game of the season against the State Home squad. Touchdowns were made by Wharton, L. Coffman, Stone, Stout, and Caraway. gftefzman .27 Denison I3 With one thought in mind since the first of the season, to beat Denison, the Bearcats brought back what might have been a tie, to a 27 to 13 victory. This game strengthened the Bearcats' hopes for a district championship. Hatfield, Boaz, and Braswell were the outstanding linemen of the night. Pelly and Stone each made two touchdowns apiece to account for the scoring. glfzefzman 39 gonlzam 7 The Bearcats again whipped back into their stride with a 39 to 7 victory overBonham's Purple VVarriors. From the very first of the game the Bearcats found it easy to score and took advantage of it, as the score indicates. The reserves played most of the game to get experience for next year. Pelly was the star of the night with a beautiful 93 yard run on a pass interception. Touchdowns were made by Stone, Brooks and Pelly. glzefzman 7 Qdamson I3 After the accustomed night games it was apparently hard for the Bearcats to play in the daytime. They fumbled the ball numerous times and pass interceptions were also very costly. The entire Sherman line played a brilliant game of football. The game was a tie 7 to 7 until three minutes before the game ended. Here Adamson bucked one over the goal line for a score to beat the Bearcats. Douglas Blankenship made the only tally on a lateral from Billy Calhoun. glmefzman 38 pdfzis 6 With district hopes in mind, the Bearcats ran over the Paris Wildcats to pile up 38 points to the Wildcats 6. A boy by the name of Maples, who was supposed to be good, found out different after a few Bearcats handled him, especially Clasper Braswell. Billy Calhoun played an outstanding game at the end position. Touchdowns were accumulated by Blankenship, Pratt, Pelly, Stone, and Bryan. glzefzman 6 ainesville 6 With district championship in mind but with tough competition on hand, the Bearcat barely eked out a victory over the Gainesville Leopards. The Bearcats were outplayed during the entire game but won the game. Wheeler was the outstanding lineman, followed by Boaz, VVillson, and Millsap. They repeatedly threw scares into the Leopards. Stone tossed a beautiful pass to Wheelei', who went over at full speed to account for the only Bearcat tally. glzehman 7 Highland pafzlz 6 fBI-DISTRICTD After the defeat handed them early in the season by the Scotties the Bearcats had been looking forward to getting sweet revenge. When the time came, however, the Bear- cats came through with a 7 to 0 victory to win the bi-district championship. The entire Bearcat forward wall played football which could only be eqnaled by colleges and showed the Scotties what real football was. In the second half, Highland Park didn't even threaten to cross the 50 yard line to the enjoyment of the Sherman fans. Douglas Blankenship made the only Bearcat score on a sneak through the center of the line. ,glimman 7 72ozlll gide 'ft woklll .25 QQUAR'rIcR-1f1NALsJ With a passing attack that was not be equaled the Bearcats were run over by the North Side Steers with a final score of 2,5 to 7. The Bearcats were led by Maurice Bryan, who seemed the only one who could make the Steers line give. Bryan played his best game of the season and more is expected of him next year. With the help of two sturdy guards, Willson and Milsap, Blankenship was helped over the goal for the only Bearcat score.
