Mr. Byron Davis Looking back over the four years we have been in Sherman High School, we recall many happy memories and friendships that we will remember always. In our first year, '32, we experienced the usual qualms of the freshmen, but by our sophomore year we had profited by our mistakes and knew all the answers. Our Junior Class presented a very delightful play which was the outstanding activity of the year. We have made a remarkable showing in all school activities with the majority of the letter winners in football, basketball, tennis, and track, as well as in debate and essay, being from our Senior Class. XVe have been well represented on the honor roll and by the most out- standing pupils. A number of the present seniors were charter members of the National Honor Society last year, and many others were added this year. The Senior Class of '36, the largest to enter and the largest to depart, is proud of its splendid record, and we pass the torch to the coming seniors. Throughout the year we have been outstanding in many activities of school life. Members of the Junior Class have participated in most all of the organi- zations of the school such as tennis, football, basketball, the choral club, glee club, the Future Farmers of America, the Hi-Y, the home economics club, the dramatic club, and the Spanish and Latin clubs. Four of the six girls in the tennis club were juniors. The boys, singles player was a junior, and two of our juniors lettered in football. Many of the names appearing on the honor roll were those of juniors. Ten of our juniors were chosen for membership in the National Honor Society. One of the high spots of the year was the presentation of the Junior play, Love Me, Love My Moneyf' in which the juniors displayed their best- dramatic, talent. The Junior Class is an exceptionally fine class and we look forward to next year when we will be seniors-the class of '37. -Joyce Wilson, '37. Mrs Porter Travis The Freshman Class organized the largest class in high school early in September. Through the guidance of our sponsor, Mrs. Travis, a very eflicient group of oilicers served during the year. Our members, having taken part in almost all of the extra curricular activities, were ably represented not only in the pep squad, home economics club, and choral club, but also in tennis, track, basketball, and football. In the scholastic contests, we had Betty Lee as a debater and Josephine Atkisson and James Hartwig as declaimers. The scholarship society has included a large number of freshmen whose work has been outstanding. One of the homevrooms in our group has competed each term for the scholarship banner, and has Won it once with a high average. In the Major Bowes, contest, our class achieved a special distinction as two of our attractive freshmen girls, Vivian Reid and Wanda Mae Grace, were the amateur winners for first and second places. As usual the Hi-Talk Was sponsored by our class in April and was both a literary and financial suc- cess. Patricia Hopkins served as literary editor and Billie Whiteacre as business manager. Twenty-four members of the Sherman Chapter of the Future Farmers of America traveled to Fort Worth Saturday, March 14, to visit the annual Fort VVorth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo and several large packing houses. HueH HGHTS OF THE YEAR ' OUR DREAM comme TRuE!r To outsiders, these pictures may look more like a nightmare than anything else, but to students of Sherman High who have had to endure the inconven- iences of an inadequate auditorium for many years, they represent a dream actually coming true. The old auditorium, which was a part of the original building, was Hrst equipped with desks and seats and was used as the study hall as well as the au- ditorium until 1924, when the present West wing' of the building was added. Since that time, each year we have found ourselves a little more crowded for seats, a little more disgusted in trying to see around the large posts, and a lit- tle more anxious for a new and modern auditorium. So, is it any wonder that we are thrilled and excited over our dream coming true? The new auditorium, which will be finished by next fall, will have the stage in the south end. The greatly enlarged stage will have large dressing rooms and will be lighted with overhead and spot lights. Because of the slop- ing iioor and balcony arrangement, the whole stage can be seen from any point in the auditorium. The balcony is to be across the north side and will have the entrances to it on the third floor, just where they are now. The en- trances ,to the main floor of the auditorium will be located as they are now, on the main iioor. Inclined ramps will run from the floor level of the main corridor to the elevated iioor level of the auditorium. A total of 1300 seats will be placed on the two floors, with,1OOU on the lower Hoor and 300 in the balcony. The seating capacity is 1400, if necessary. . Every student of Sherman High is going to be proud of this new audi- torium and is going to enjoy it. Each one of us is grateful to our superin- tendent and school board, thosesplendid modern pioneers, for their constant and untiring efforts to make this dream a reality.
