Sixteen girls par- ticipated in this sport: three seniors, four juniors, four sophomores, and five freshmen. Their season began with eight non-conference games. They won four and lost four. Next were the conference games. The record was a little better: 8 and 2. The girls advanced to the district tournament held in Dillon ranked first and ended up winning the tournament for the third consecutive year. Two weeks later they were off to divisionals in Missoula. They received the second place trophy and advanced to the state tournament held in Lewistown. The Sheridan girls' basket- ball team of 1987 placed fourth in the state with a final record of 18 and 9. This was the first team to go to the state com- petition from Sheridan. 20 1. VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM. FRONT ROW. L TO R: Angel Trettel. This may not seem too im- pressive, but whatever the Panthers lacked in size and skill was overshadowed by thei desire to play basketball. The turnout of boys interested in basketball for the 1987-88 season was so good the for the first time in several years there were three teams of Panthers. Coaches Lott an Lane were assisted by Chris Mehring, a student from Western Montana College. The Panthers graduated five seniors this year but look forward to a great rebuilding year in 1988-89. 1. The Panthers’ next stop was Laurel for divisionals. The Panthers con- quered Ennis, Bridger, and Joliet to put them in the championship game. The Panthers could not prevail in that tough championship fight but made school history by moving on to Havre for the state tournament. The Panthers played well with their only losses to the top two teams in the state. Miss Logan summarizes the season by saying, “Teamwork was the key to the whole season.” 1. PANTHER VOLLEYBALL TEAM. Good up, Susan Wessel!” Far Out Footwork This year’s football team consisted of four seniors, four juniors, two sophomores, and seven freshmen. The season wasn’t one of the best; but Coach Leary said, “I couldn’t have been happier with their effort. Part of the reason this season wasn’t up to par was due to the fact that there weren’t that many returning players. The two wins were supplied by Lima and Twin Bridges in grueling contests. The senior members of the Panther football squad can pride themselves for defeating rival Twin Bridges all four years of their football career. • - f ’L THr 2 26 1. FOOTBALL TEAM, FRONT ROW.
