Homecoming Highlights Homecoming festivities for 1986 hegan Thursday evening, October 9, in the SHS gym with a pep rally follow- ed by a bonfire on the football field. Friday got off to a terrific start with a parade at 11 a.m. down Main Street. There were several floats and many people felt that it was the largest parade Sheridan has ever seen. At half-time of the Gardiner Bruins vs. Sheridan Panthers football game the float winners were announced: first prize went to the seventh grade, second went to the juniors, and third was awarded to the freshmen. Homecoming royalty included seniors Blake Carey and Janet Ostler, juniors John Dietrich and Diane Christensen, sophomores Lonnie Horn and Bobbie Petersen, and freshmen Bill Flager and Jody Cassy. Diane Christensen was crowned homecoming queen by the senior co-captains Paul Pallas, Scott Wessel, and Fritz Bieler. The final score of the football game was Sheridan 32 and Gardiner 26. Sheridan high school students did their victory dance that night to the taped sounds of rock and roll. 1. “I caught it! Now what do I do?” Scott Wessel making a fine catch. 2. The Panthers ruined the Bruins 32-26 in the Homecoming game. (Paul Pallas 78, Keith Kneeland 35, Daryl Case 77). 3. Panther Power GIRLS A-SQUAD BASK KIR ALL, FRONT ROW, L TO R: Coach Kerry Koenig, Manager Jody Cassy, Statistician Kim Guinnane, Asst. Coach Rob Lott. BACK ROW: Judy Bieler, Susie Chrest, Susan Wessel, Janet Ostler, Julie Kieckbusch. Shelley Tezak, Lisa Shafer, Karol Mark, Anita Shaw, Dana Forcella. The 1986 girls’ basketball season was a big success. The Panther girls had several tough preseason games but managed to come out on the winning end. The conference season started off with a bang. The Panthers had a 68-40 victory over the Lima Bears. Conference play for the girls was excellent: they only lost once to Harrison by three points and ended the season with a 9-1 record. The biggest highlight of the season was winning the district tournament and becoming district champs. This win meant a trip to the divisional tournament in Dillon. The Panthers’ first game ended in a loss to Wilsall but they came back to beat the Noxon Red Devils. The girls tried hard and played their best but just couldn’t come out on the winning side. Sheridan’s four seniors had been to divisional three of their four years. The Panthers’ season ended with a 18-5 record. Coach Koenig said, “The girls’ basketball tradition at Sheridan High School is at a high point and hopefully the younger ball players can help the positive attitude over the upcoming years.” 22
