Despite rain the day started off with a parade through downtown Sheridan. First place float went to the Freshmen and they also won the box contest. Juniors re- ceived second place for their efforts in the float contest, while the Sophomores took third, leaving the Seniors with honorable mention. The Sheridan Panthers were hosts to the Ennis Mustangs. The Panthers fought brave- ly through a tight game, but the Mustangs squeaked by with a 20-14 win. During half time the captains crowned the Homecoming Queen. The candidates were Seniors, Sara Steiner and Roger Decker; Ju- niors, Lisa Graham and Dan Meier; Sopho- mores, Janet Cannon and Wade Wright; Freshmen, Kathy Steiner and Dave McLaughlin. The 1981-1982 Homecoming Royalty was Queen Sara Steiner and Escort Roger Decker. Homecoming came to a close with the last few hours of movement coming from the sound of “Rockitt” a band out of Missoula. EXrLAXI 18 1. They had a hard time getting started due to a loss of their coach, the chicken pox, motorcycle wrecks, and bad knees; however, Panthers gained the nec- essary ground, and worked their way to Helena. Coach Larry Kieckbusch took over the boys’ basketball coaching position in January. On February 25, the Panthers traveled to Dillon to start 11-C Boys’ District Tournament action. They beat the Harrison Wildcats 55-31. One of the most exciting games played at the tournament was Friday against the Twin Bridges Falcons; the Panthers came up ahead 48-46. This got the Panthers into the championship game where Sheridan fell short and was defeated 63-64 by Ennis. They then had to play the Lima Bears on Monday night, and won 68-62. This gave the Panthers a ride to the Divisional Tourney held in Helena on March 4-6. In the opening game they played the No. 1 ranked team, Manhattan Christian. The Panthers came up short 60-73. The team then defeated Al- berton 65-54. The Panthers clashed with the En- nis Mustangs (District Rivals) and were defeated 47-42. The loss ended the Panthers season with a record of 11 wins and 13 losses. 26 1. Dave Claypool (45) out jumps the opponent while Bruce Mantha (13) awaits the tip off. 2.
