This was a most enjoyable and memorable year for Coach Leary and the players despite ending with only an average record of three wins and three losses. The high point of the season had to be the thriller played against Ennis midway through the season. Even though they lost the game on the final play, the Panthers earned back a lot of much deserved respect. Sheridan's hard-hitting junior varsity team was an- other bright spot in the season. They finished with a record of five wins and one loss. 22 1. David Chrest concentrating on the game? 2. David Chrest really concentrating on the game! 3. All the pregame activities had everyone ready for the big game starring the Sheridan Pan- thers hosting the Clyde Park Blackbirds. Thursday evening at the pep rally, you would have found many towns people and students raising the spirit for the following day, as well as getting the guys psyched up for the big game. Many skits were performed by the classes. The annual bonfire was a success with the class of 82 taking top-honors for the most boxes. This was the third year they had won. The parade started the big day off with various floats entered from the Booster Club to the American Legion. The Sophomores won with their float Bake the Blackbirds, the Juniors re- ceived second place, while the Freshmen got third, and last but not least, the Seniors received honorable mention. Homecoming royalty was: Seniors Sherrie Har- rington and Howard Crane; Juniors Paula Elser and Bob Webb; Sophomores Gina Mortensen and Mark Doffinger; Freshmen Kim Dietrich and Wade Wright. The Panthers put the Blackbirds to rest with a 52- 12 victory. The students of S.H.S. boogied to the Beat of Y-95 to end a very successful homecoming celebration. 25 GIRLS’ BASKETBALL, L TO R: Carli Maddison, Paula Elser, Sara Steiner, Elizabeth Swager, Bonnie Shackleton, Jane Ostler, Judy Brown, Sherry Tezak, Dusty Conley, Carol Steiner, Brenda Overcast, Debbie Simpson, Manager Sara Wilson. Season Record The 1980 Purplecats had a super season with 9 wins and 7 losses overall. Although the season was drawn out, the players agreed it was great! Mr. Kieckbusch was the new coach of the Purple- cats this year. He helped the mighty Purplecats prepare for a victorious season. They tied with Ennis for the conference title and won their first game ever in the divisional tournament against Philipsburg. One of the main highlights of the season was defeating Ennis twice. One of the few disappoint- ments of the season was losing at district. The Purplecats all agreed Mr. Kieckbusch was an ex- cellent coach and they know they'll do a really great job next year.
