Sheridan Opponent 14 12 Twin Bridges 44 18 Gardiner 16 12 Ennis 40 8 Clyde Park 28 6 West 30 20 Superior 72 26 White Sulphur Springs 16 50 Phillipsburg The 1979 SHS football team had a super season this year with 7 wins and 1 loss. There was a tremendous turnout of players, 37 in all, which was 66% of the male students in SHS. Although the season was drawn out, the players agreed it was great! Bob Wright, Rob Miller, and Ted King donated much of their time to helping Mr. Leary prepare the mighty Sheridan Panthers for a victorious season. Their efforts were rewarded by winning the Class C Dis- trict Championship. One of the main highlights of the season was the defeating of our town rivals: Ennis and Twin Bridges. Fortunately, there were only minor injuries among the team this year. One of the few disappointments of the season, according to Coach Leary, was their lack of effectiveness in the first half and the fact that they didn’t make a better showing in the divisional game against Phillipsburg. Season Record Homecoming Heroes On a hot October day, the West Yellowstone Wolverines met their match against the strong Sheridan Panthers. The pregame activities included a rowdie pep rally Thursday evening at which the town’s people matched their spirit against the students. The bonfire was a success with the sophomores taking top honors in the box contest. The Freshmen came in second with the Juniors running it in for a third. Seniors took the honorable mention award. Parade day started off with a slow bang because the Junior float turned up missing. This year even the town’s people and teachers got involved to make it the best one so far. The float contest was won by the Freshmen with the theme of “Wash em’ out Panthers”. Sophomores grabbed second place; Juniors received third, and the Seniors made honorable mention again. Homecoming royalty was: Seniors Dena Simpson and Tim Nicholls; Ju- niors Shelly Harrington and Ben Swager; Sophomores Bonnie Shackleton and David Claypool; Freshmen Tammy Powers and Marvin Elser. The 1979- 80 Homecoming queen was Shelly Harrington. As the day came to an end, the Panthers tucked another victory under their belts. 1. The old replacing the new!
