Panther Hoop-Shooters The Panthers started the '76-'77 basketball season with a new coach, Kevin Flynn, who contributed many new ideas and coaching strategies for a more successful year. There were many new experiences and festivities such as refreshments after practices and games, and free dinners furnished by Panther fans and parents for winning key games during the regular season. To boost the Panthers' spirit before the tournament there was a community pot-luck dinner put on by the Pep Club and fans. The Pep Club also contributed to the basketball season by picking secret sisters for each of the players on both A and B squads. The secret sisters put in much effort baking cakes, cookies, and pies which helped to lift the spirits of the teams. To gain experience and to fill out the rest of the Panther schedule, several new non-conference games, and one new tournament were added. They were with Three Forks, Clyde Park, and a Christmas Tournament in White Sulpher Springs. The Junior Varsity also started their year with a new coach, Dean Leary, who guided his in- experienced team through a busy season. It was a rough season for the young team, with tough compe- tition, but they came through the season quite suc- cessfully. The B-squad cheerleaders rewarded the team for their efforts by fixing a taco supper for them. 1.
