The Class of ’74 Dedicates Its Yearbook to Supt. W. K. Pauli who played an essential part in the lives of the students of Sheridan High, offered them wisdom and hoped for their success. In this way, we wish to express our gratitude. Summer vacation ended on a sad note with the news of the deaths of Superintendent and Mrs. W. K. Pauli in an airplane crash on July 31, 1973. Mr. and Mrs. Pauli were returning home after a visit with their son and his family in Burlington, Vermont. The Delta Airlines flight was pro- ceeding to land at the Boston Airport, when one of the wings hit a sea wall, causing the plane to crash only a few miles from the terminal. The Paulis moved to Sheridan in 1966 when Mr. Pauli became Superin- tendent of Schools. He had formerly been superintendent in Lima and Clyde Park. Mr. Pauli was active in community affairs and was commander of the American Legion at the time of his death. Mrs. (Betty) Pauli was employed at the Montana Children’s Center. Prayer for Educators We who are privileged, Lord, to share with youth The quest for knowledge and the thirst for truth, Unite our hearts in deep humility To ask for wisdom and ability; Forever mindful that the teaching art Demands a patient, understanding heart, A heart that goes beyond the urge to teach And by example rather than with speech Sets forth a gentle wisdom, fair and kind, Which leaves its imprint on the growing mind, To be retained and one day understood By these who are the hope of brotherhood. In Memory of Supt. Pauli From “Meditation 17” by John Donne .. .No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of a continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, be- cause I am involved in mankind, and there- fore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. .. 2
