Mrs. Kitt was critically injured October 9, while participating in the school's annual 'S' day and succumbed eight days later at the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls. Mrs. Kitt began her teaching career at Sheridan in 1934 as Miss Weame, resigning her position in 1936 after her marriage to Dr. S. P. Kitt. She returned in 1942 and remained until her death. She instructed English, social studies, French, and music for the high school. Her choruses and ensembles won many awards in district and state music festivals and she conducted annual Christmas programs. Mrs. Kitt was also school librarian and junior class advtter. “My Fair Lady ” I Give Thanks by Mona Jones As I look into the hurt eyes of my classmates, friends, and teachers, I see and know what I have to give thanks for. I have been a part, a small part, of a wonderful and important person's life. I was acquainted with, befriended, and taught by Mrs. Kitt. I am thankful for all the memories I have to cherish of Mrs. Kitt, her ability to understand, not condemn, will always be one of the many wonderful memories I hold of her. The many moments of joy, laughter, sorrow, and learning will stay with me throughout my life. Whenever I was lonely or felt out of place, I could go to her and without a word, I felt important and understood. Whether she knew it or not, I relied on her to teach me what nobody else could. I am thankful that Mrs. Kitt's life was so complete and that she lived it to its fullest, making each day a day to help others. I am also thankful, I shared her gifts of knowledge, music, fun, and love, and I hope somehow to make my life as wonderful as hers was. Who Was She? By Karla Barnosky Who was she? She wras music, the Christmas program, festivals, the band at games, and the little lady you could always count on for entertainment. She was the class projects. The library was her doing, and she could always recommend a good book. She was freshman English--the one who took our daily pranks with pleasure and loved our last minute surprise parties. Always willing to talk, smile, or give a portion of her time, she was appreciated by all. She would have a word of encouragement when things were looking low and gave only constructive criticism. She wasn't ever in a bad mood, but seemed to understand when we were. She was our Mrs. Kitt and we loved her. 2 3 Supt. W.K. Pauli received his BS degree in education from MSU and his masters from the U of Montana. He taught at Hardin for six years, was superintendent at Clyde Park for five years and at Lima for five years. This is his eighth year as Sheridan's superintendent. His responsibilities are admin- istration and operation of the school system. Mr. Larry Kieckbusch, coach, principal, teacher, has BS and MS degrees from Western Montana College with majors in social studies and physical education. Came to Sheridan in 1965, elected State Class C Foot- ball Coach of the Year in '68, became principal of the high school in 1970, teaches US history and geography. Administration Mrs. Peggy Armstrong filled the position of School Clerk during the summer of 1971. Mrs. Armstrong is a certified officer of the Sheridan School District. She handles all Student Body Association and the School District's books. She is the Clerk of the School Board and takes care of the lunch records. School Board Chairman Ted Darby, Bruce Pearson, Max Miller, Ivan Smail, Marty Schulz, Dave Rossiter, and Pat Burke. “September Song’’ Mrs. Leslie Jackson, FHA adviser, previously taught in the Sheridan school system for eight and one half years, returning here from Great Falls in 1968. She teaches home eco- nomics I, II, III, IV, and biology. She has a BS degree from Montana State University. Mrs. Larry Kieckbusch, received her BS degree in education from Western Montana College. Came to SHS teaching staff in the fall of 1972, teaching girls' P.E. Taught in Whitefish for one year and at Butte Business College for a half year. Mr. Dan L ant is, FFA adviser, has a BS degree in agriculture education from Montana State University. He joined the SHS teaching staff last year; instructor in Vo-ag 1 and 2, small engines, engines and machinery, ag, business, building instruction, welding, and livestock produc- tion. Mrs. Clarke Raymond, came to SHS in the late fall of 1972 to take over Mrs. Kitt s classes, speech, band, chorus, small ensemble, and English I. She received her BS degree in secondary education from WMC with majors in English and music. is the sophomore class adviser. BS degree Brigham Young University, MS degree Western Montana College of education. Came to SHS teaching staff in the fall of 1967, teaching government, economics, English I, American literature, short story, and advanced composi- tion. Mrs. Lowell Paige Mr. Larry Keller BA degree University of Utah, PASS AMARI and TRAILBLAZER adviser, teaching English II, journalism, Montana literature, drama, English mechanics, novel, and world literature. Ninth year on SHS teaching staff. 6 i r.i.tuN. Mr. John Funk started teaching general math, algebra I, science, and 7th and 8th grade science in the fall of 1972. He received his BS at Western Montana College in Dillon, majoring in math and science. He is junior adviser. Mr. Gary Anderson, senior class adviser, BS degree Montana State University in mathematics. Joined SHS teaching staff last year; instructor in physics, calculus, drivers' education, geometry, algebra I and II. Mr. James Corrigan, freshman adviser, is in his sixth year on the SHS staff, teaching typing, bookkeeping, general business, office machines, and clerical office practice. At the District Musical Festival in Deer Lodge, April 14, two sextets received superior ratings and went on to State Music Festival in Bozeman, May 4-5, where they both received excellent ratings. Ruth Edmisten repre- sented Sheridan in the All-State Chorus. Activities for the music department during the yeai included style shows, Christmas program, music festivals, Baccalaureate and Commencement and playing at the home games. A special program was presented for the Eastern Star in Virginia City, April 24. FHA AT WORK The FHA was involved in many activities during the fall. Among them was the initiation of new members. Later in the season the chapter journeyed to Three Forks to observe and partici- pate in the District Convention. Mothers were invited to a chili supper and flea market auction. The FHA girls went Christmas caroling during December. Selling refreshments for the basketball games was a busy project during the cold months. The girls also made sandwiches for the basketball teams to eat after the games. A large spaghetti supper was served to the boys at the end of the season. The big event for February was the Father-Daughter Banquet. At the conclusion of the dinner,a box social was staged to sell desserts made by the girls. Proceeds went to the Doris Kitt Music Memorial. A taco supper was enjoyed at the election of officers. Hobo Day provided fun and hard work during the spring clean-up. Girls spent the day cleaning the town. FHA week was celebrated by the girls. May baskets were made and distributed around town to elderly people. The girls, modeling the clothes sewn in class, presented a style show for their mothers. At the end of the year the new officers were installed. National Convention Delegates The chapter began the year by attending an officers' training course in Belgrade in September. Six juniors, Steve Burke, Jeff Marsh, James Gilman, Dave Eby, Bruce Peterson, and Gary McLaughlin,attended the FFA National Convention, October 10-14 in Kansas City, Missouri. A judging team, ‘composed of Jeff Marsh, James Gilman, Dennis Descheemaeker, and David Hoffman, was sent to the Winter Fair in Bozeman, January 24. The chapter helped sponsor an FFA alumni dinner. During National FFA Week, February 19-23, the chapter put up posters in local stores and in school to promote FFA. Judging teams won the sweepstakes at District Convention in Clyde Park 9-10.
