THE 1967 TRAILBLAZER FOREWORD The Class of '68 presents this yearbook to you, the students of Sheridan High School. This product of hours of rush, worry, and hard work was prepared to give you an accurate and interesting review of the school year. We, the Trailblazer staff, hope this yearbook will provide much enjoyment in the years to come as you look back on that wonderful year, 1967-68. SHERIDAN HIGH SCHOOL SHERIDAN, MONTANA DEDICATION RUTH BIELER The 1968 Senior Class of Sheridan High School would like to take this opportunity to express their thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Ruth Bieler for her time and effort put forth in the keeping of the Sheridan High School records. Mrs. Bieler grew up in Sheridan. She attended school in both Sheridan and Brandom. She is also a graduate of Western Montana College in Dillon. After graduating from college, she taught school for three years, two in Virginia City and one in Hardin. Mrs. Bieler was County Superintendent for the Madison Schools for four years, from 1923 to 1926. She then served as Trustee for Sheridan High School for twenty years. Mrs. Bieler proceeded Mr. Brim as school clerk which keeps her busy at present. It gives us pleasure to dedicate this issue of the TRAILBLAZER to Mrs. Bieler. 2 IN APPRECIATION To our Mothers and Fathers--who have worked so hard to bring within our reach the best possible--who have given up so much that we might have a little more--who have stood behind us all the way, through our failures as well as our successes. We, the Senior Class of 1968, express our most sincere appreciation and hope that we can do as well for our children as our parents have done for us. Mr. Mrs. John H. BACCALAUREATE COMMENCEMENT 13 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On the first day of school, fifteen bright, eager faces came running up the steps to greet their first teacher, Mrs. Florence Stine. They were Jimmy Merrill, Mike Baril, Vicki Secore, Susan Tilton, Gary Simonsen, Dale Marsh, Randy Baril, Nat Todd, Pat Darby, Carl King, Steve Jones, Don Tolson, and Chuck Marsh. After having learned the essentials of reading and a few other odds and ends, we made it to the second grade where Mrs. Helen Tolson was our teacher. When it was time to enter the third grade, Miss Louise Steiner accepted us, although she had a class of fourth graders to cope with, too. Miss Steiner was our teacher again in the fourth grade, but this time we were the upperclassmen in our combined class of third and fourth graders. At last we journeyed to the fifth grade where Mr. Ray Macek had a combined class of fifth and sixth graders. In the first part of the sixth grade, our class was split between two teachers; Mr. Macek taught fifth and sixth graders and Mr. Jackson taught sixth and seventh graders. It was that year we gained a new teacher, Mrs. Isabelle Marsh, and our class was re- united. When seventh grade came around, Mr. Les Jackson was our teacher. We finally reached our last year of grade school; Mr. Charles Murray was there to teach us. This year we were joined by Bill Babcock, Carolyn Smail, Peggy Smail, and John Anderson from Alder. That year we took first place in the Amateur Show with The Bedbugs as our main act. Another mile- stone had been reached! Then at last we started our four glorious years of high school, with Mr. Kenneth Logan as our advisor. We lived through the big event of initiation and finally came up with a skit for the Amateur Show. We thought it was great but nobody seemed to appreciate it, and we didn't even place. That year our carnival royalty nominees were Carol Hunt and Chuck Marsh. Both freshmen received the highest honors. 14 Our sophomore year was marked by a car wash that turned out to be a successful hole in one. Our class advisor was Mrs. Clarke Raymond, and our carnival king and queen candidates were Lara Larson and John Anderson. John was lucky enough to be crowned king. The sophomore portion of the Amateur Show turned out to be a history of dancing from covered wagon days right up to the modern jogs. We placed third that year. Our heads swelled as we moved into our junior year, which was highlighted by the prom and the Junior-Senior banquet. The theme for our prom was A Summer Place. A swing, a rock wall and gate, and green and pink flowers dominated the scene. The grand march was led by our class president, John Anderson, and the senior queen, Pat Bushman. Doug Smith was next in line as senior class president to escort the junior princess, Lara Larson. Our carnival candidates were Peggy Smail and Don Tolson. The Girls' State delegates were Jane Williams and Carolyn Smail, alternate. John Anderson, Dale Marsh, Nat Todd, and Chuck Marsh, alternate, were chosen for the Boys' State delegates. Our senior year was topped off with Peggy Smail as DAR Good Citizen and carnival king and queen candidates Carol Thomas and Monte Ballou. The Junior Prom, given in our honor, was set to the tune of Love Is Blue. The grand march this year was led by Lara Larson, senior queen, and John Martinell, junior president. Monte Ballou, senior president, crowned Kathy Lueck junior princess. Following the prom, the seniors were honored by the juniors at the Junior-Senior banquet. Senior parents attended for the first time. On May nineteenth, Baccalaureate was held. The main speaker was Rev. Robert Grotzke. As the year drew to a close, Commencement was held on May twenty-fourth with Mr. Alve Thomas as the main speaker. After receiving our diplomas from the chairman of the school board, Mr. Norman Schulz, twenty-one excited graduates left Sheridan High School to venture forth into the big, wide world. 15 Joyce: Happy and satisfied. He had no family. John was born in Bellview, 111. Jan. 20, 1884. He came to the Ruby Valley many years ago and worked for various ranches in the area. He bought a small ranch near Alder and contracted sheep-moving and camp-tending work. Several years ago he sold his ranch and moved to Sheridan. With the passing of John Grey the Sheridan school's athletic teams lost one of their staunchest supporters. Win, lose or draw, John was always there. John's more recent interests ran to high school basketball. Always a great booster, he followed the teams near and far. For his avid interest in the youths, John was presented an honorary life-time pass to all SHS athletic events and was made an honorary member of the 'S' club. The pass is now placed in the SHS trophy case and will always call to mind a true friend and supporter of the students of Sheridan High School. FRONT: J. Kaatz, T. Walter, S. Nottingham, D.
