CLASS HISTORY September 15, 1952, saw thirteen awed, yet eager first graders ready to begin their education at Sheridan Public Schools. They were Jo Ann Baril, Carol Doombos, Charolette Hollen, Judy Janelli, Bona Jane Leebenow, Margaret Ann Morris, Jeanie Edith Tilton, Carolyn Ann Tolson, Kathy Jean White, Bonnie Leigh Weber, Pat- rick Magee, Ray Livingston Shaw, and Jane Spear. Twelve years have passed; classmates have come and gone, leaving seventeen graduating seniors in the class of '64-Kathie White, Kathleen Sheehan, Bonnie Weber, Sluggo Wessel, Jeannie Tilton, Carol Doombos, Judy Sinerius, Bill Gibson, Ed Osbom, Carolyn Tolson, Margaret Morris, Bona Leebenow, Ray Shaw, Walt Piippo, Charles Edmisten, Ken Piippo, and Kent Lindsay. Among the student who joined the class after the first grade and later moved away were Jim Doyle, Gayle Stedam, Don Gilbert, Terry Merrill, Susan Kelly, Jo Ann Baril, Marvetta Martin, Sandy Patterson, Karen Blunt, and Steve Stolp. During our grade school years we were priveleged to take a train ride from Logan to Livingston under the supervision of our third grade teacher, Mrs. Flo Birrer, and a field tour of the Berkley Pit in Butte and the Rus- sel Museum in Helena, under the direction of Mr. Robert Almstead, our fifth grade teacher. These two years respectively saw two dramatic achievements, Hanzel and Gretel, and Scheherazade. Our eighth grade graduation was the first big mile stone in our education and brought us to our freshman year in high school. Our freshman class officers were president, Ray Shaw; vice-president, Carol Doombos; and secretary treasurer, Bonnie Weber. Mr. Don Douglas was the class advisor. This first year in high school was filled with many new experiences, the most memorable perhaps being our initiation at the hands of the sophomores. Carnival candidates were Ray Shaw and Carolyn Tolson. The sophomore year found Carol Doombos as president; Ed Osbom, vice-president; and Kathie White, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Dan King was the advisor thatyear. During the year we were joined by Kathleen Sheehan. The biology field trip to the Lewis and Clark Caverns was a time of fun to be remembered because of the bug catching and the girl chasing that went on. That same year Kathie White and Steve Stolp were Carnival candi- dates, Kathie ending up as Carnival Queen. The junior year was a full and important one because it marked the first year of becoming upperclassmen. Class officers were president, Ray Shaw; vice-president, Ed Osborn; and secretary-treasurer, Bonnie Weber. Mrs. Clarke Raymond was our advisor. Carnival Candidates that year were Carol Doombos and Bill Gibson. The trip to Helena to visit the Legislature was a memorable experience. Some of the junior members had parts in the speech class play, Little Sheppard of Kingdom Come. The juniors were first place winners of the annual amateur show, our theme being the celebration of the Madison County centennial. The junior class chose their class rings and sponsored the traditional junior prom. The theme was Three Coins In aFountain ; decorations were in different shades of blue with an Italian garden scene on the stage. Music was provided by the Renegades . The Senior Queen, Glenda Gum and junior president, Ray Shaw, led the Grand March, followed by junior princess, Bonnie Weber and senior President, Lewis Brown. Class delegate to Girls' State was Kathie White; and Ray Shaw, Charles Edmisten, and Ed Osborn represented us at Boy's State. The senior class officers were Walt Piippo, president; Carolyn Tolson, vice-president; and Jean Tilton, secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Clarke Raymond was class advisor for the second year. Carnival candidates were Kathy Sheehan and Sluggo Wessel, Sulggo bringing a victory to the senior class. The senior class took second place in the Amateur Show, our theme bring a reminiscence of our school days. Going to Butte for senor pictures, selling TRAILBLAZER ads in Butte and Dillon, and visiting the Butte news- paper and brokerage offices were events of our final year. The Small Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. S. P. Kitt, was an asset to the school. Five of the senior girls participated in the District Music Festival. The junior prom was given in our honor on May 2. The theme was The Green Leaves of Summer ; the Bobcat Ambassadors provided the music. The Grand March was led by Senior Queen, Bonnie Weber, and the junior vice-president, Barry Carter, followed by the Junior Princess, Anne Carey, and the senior class president, Walt Piippo. Award night was on May 11 with numerous seniors receiving awards. Carolyn Tolson won the good citizenship award. Bonnie Weber, received recognition for having represented Sheridan High at High School Week for her second year in a row. Ray Shaw, Sluggo Wessel, Ed Osbom, and Bill Gibson were honored for their participa- tion in football. Ray was a letterman for four years in track, football, and basketball. The class colors chosen were pink and white; the flower was a red rose. Our class motto was Give to the World the best you have and the best will come back to you. The junior-senior banquet was held on May 12 with the mother's preparing and serving. Baccalaureate services were Sunday evening, May 24, in the Sheridan High School Gym with Rev. Ben Gum giving the sermon. Commencement exercises were May 26 with Dean Blomgren delivering the message, and Rev. Ben Gum giving the Invocation and Benediction. The Girls' Chorus Boys' Chorus, and Small Ensem- ble provided musical selections under the direction of Mrs. Doris Kitt. Supt. Alve Thomas presented the honors of Valedictorian, Salutatorian and a scholarship from Colorado Women's College to Bonnie Weber, Carolyn Tolson and Jean Tilton, respectively. Mr. Don Douglas presented the Class of 1964 to the Board of Education and its chairman, Kenneth Halse, awarded the diplomas. The Class of 1964 ended twelve wonder- ful years at Sheridan High as they marched out of the gymnasium and into life. 6
