f D e i c a t • i o n MR. DON W. DOUGLAS We, the Seniors of the class of 1956, ded- icate this edition of the Trailblazer to Mr. Douglas, our teacher and advisor, and to our parents, who have given so unswervingly of their time and patience. We hope that we have fulfilled and will continue to fulfill their expectations in us, and that, eventually, we may repay them for their efforts. 2 Superintendent’s Message Superintendent A. J. THOMAS Those who read this book will enjoy examining a fine record of accomplish- ment. On these pages will be recorded by picture and word the story of growth and progress that has been made during a very important year of your life. The annual staff is to be congrat- ulated on a job well done. They have demonstrated what canbe accomplished by planning, effort and cooperation. The Class of 1956 have made an enviable record during their school years, and I feel certain, that they will do much to make their parents, teacher s and the entire community, proud of them in the future. The Mixed Chorus 41 Class History of ’56 In September 1944, twelve happy, eager first graders mounted the first step on the stairway of their twelve years of education. They were : Walter Braach, Kenneth Lueck, George Ellinghouse, Doris Glick, Bar- bara Baril, Aileen Judge, Muriel Baril, Faye Winslow, Shirley Hiller, Lola Nunly, William Talbott, and Bobby Hunter, with Mrs. Helen Tolson as their teacher. Eight steps have been taken on the stairway as we see twelve eighth graders receiving their diplomas. They are: Eugene Stringham, Doris Glick, Mickey McRea, Allen Hickethier, Janice English, George Elling- house, Mildred Burton, Peggy B runner, Orville Bock, Barbara Baril, Lawrence Sayles and Dixie Albrecht. As the group mounts the ninth step, six new classmates appear--Bud Bock, Harold Kelly, Mike Moran, Marvin Hansen John Carey, Barbara Redman, and Tom Urwin. Dixie Albrecht transferred to Butte, and Lawrence Sayles also transfe r red . Class officers were Allen Hickethier, president; Barbara Baril, vice-president; George Ellinghouse, secre- tary and treasurer; Doris Glick, student representative. Initiation proved very interesting although the sophomore year was anxiously a- waited for initiating the up-and-coming freshmen. The class won first place in the amateur show, which was the highlight of the freshman year. On the tenth step two students were added to the group--Dixie Albrecht and Donna Held. Orville Bock left the class to join the service. Our sophomore class officers were: Peggy Brunner, president; Barbara Baril .vice-pre sident; Doris Glick, sec retary-treasurer; Donna Held, reporter; Barbara Redman, student representative. We initiated the poor freshmen and gave a party for them. This was a busy year £or us, as we had several class parties and won second place in the amateur show. Our eleventh step on the stairway was one of our most active. Lead- ing us this year were Bud Bock, president; Harold Kelly, vice-presi- dent; Doris Glick, secretary-treasurer; Barbara Baril, reporter; and Tom Urwin, student representative. Our class lost Donna Held and gained Sue Smith. The highlight of our junior year was the Prom, given in honor of the seniors, on May 5. The theme was Aloha . The ceiling was very differ ent with a checkerboard effect of dark blue and azure blue crepe paper. The back of the gym was decorated with the U.S.S. '55 ship at dock, and a Hawaiian hut surrounded by palm trees. Along the bottom of the stage Aloha Seniors was written in crepe paper orchids. Joe Briney'sFive Piece Orchestra from Butte played on the stage which was decorated with a fence and arch, covered with paper roses. The grand march was led by Gerda Glick, senior queen, and Bud Bock, junior president; Barbara Baril, junior princess, and Art Bieler, senior pres- ident, followed. The Queen and Princess were presented with beautiful orchid leis from Hawaii. We won second place in the amateur show again this year. Delegates to Boys' State were George Ellinghouse, Allen Hickethier, Mike Moran, and Bob Rogers, alternate. Girls' State dele- gate was Barbara Baril, with Mickey McRea as alternate. To end a suc- cessful year, we attended the junior-senior banquet, sponsored by the mothers of the two classes. At last we reached the twelfth and final step on the stairway of educa- tion, our senior year. Officers were elected as follows: George Elling- house, president; John Carey, vice-president; Doris Glick, secretary- treasurer; Bud Stringham, student representative; Mildred Burton, re- porter. Bud Bock was president of the student body and Allen Hicken- thier, vice-president. As seniors we gained Gary Stine and Beverly 42 Norton, and toward the end of the year we lost Bud Bock. We gave our senior ball March 31, which portrayed an Easter theme. We won second place in the amateur show again. One of our fondest memories is our senior trip to Salt Lake, April 26 to 29. We attended the junior-senior banquet held May 17. Baccalaureate services were May 13, then on May 18, we received those long-awaited diplomas that stand for so many happy memories in Sheridan High School. Three students, George Ellinghouse, Barbara Baril and Doris Glick, were together their twelve years in the Sheridan schools, while Harold Kelly, Mike Moran and John Carey were also together, eight years at Alder in grade school and the four years in Sheridan High. Our four years of high school would not have been so successful if it had not been for the patient guidance of our adviser, Mr. Douglas, to whom we shall ever be grateful. Early riser.
