Mr. Brim departed from us in 1953 but all of us will forever carry many fond memories of him. 3 Superintendent’s Message This book is fine testimony of your accomplishments during the last four years; you have worked hard and you have been successful. Now turn to the future, where you are faced with uncertainties and problems of great magnitude, you must cast aside any prejudices, sus- picions or fear s for weapons of calm reason, understanding and co-opera- tion which will lead you to personal freedom and happiness. Yours will be the defense against the aggres- sions and oppressions of tomorrow. You must see that the heritage of freedom that has been handed down to you will be preserved and strengthened. Montana 39 Senior Sneak Day The date is May 20, 1954; the time, 6:30 A M.; the setting, Sheridan High School. Twenty- one sleepy-eyed seniors and six chaperones slowly made their way to the meeting place-- the High School. After rummaging through the school house and turning everything upside down and inside out, we piled into five cars and began our journey to Helena. Our next meeting place was the East Helena turn-off. Again the five cars formed one group and started to the Chamber of Commerce, which we found after much confusion. The State Capitol, which we toured, was the next stop on our journey. We saw a Senate Committee in session and a famous painting by Charles Russell. This picture was being very scientifically cleaned by a specialist from Italy, and it is the first time in approximately 100 years that this picture has been cleaned. After touring the Capitol we journeyed across the street to the Historical Society Building, which proved to be very interesting. It is now 12:00 and we are taken to the home of H. L. Dotson where we enjoy a picnic lunch on his veranda. After eating, we then drove back to town and shopped before beginning our journey toGregson. After swimming, and a show in Butte, most of the class enjoyed a chicken dinner at Lydia's before journeying back to Sheridan. All in ail it proved to be a very enjoyable day. Class Will We, the Senior Class of the year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-four, at the present being of sound mind and strong backbone, declare this our last will and testament, We find it fitting and proper to leave our dearest and most deserving possessions to our successors here at Sheridan High School. To the faculty we leave the pleasant memory of our presence; To the Class of'55, our caps and gowns, if they should ever need them; To the Class of '57 our books, in order that they may benefit from them as much as we have; To the Class of '58. our arguments with Mrs. Kitt; and to our advisor, Mrs. Kitt, we leave a backache as a souvenir from the class of '54. I, La Rae Daley, leave my big brown eyes to Shirley Miller; I, Barbara Norton, my singing ability to my sister, Beverly; I, Lonie Stringham, my bashfulness to Gary Stine. I, Doug Salmonsen, leave my fun in school to Beverly Peterson; I, Janice Baker, my 94 average to John Woodward; I, Doris Talbot, my ability for being active to Bernice Ramer; I, Betty Jo Myers, my ability to get along with Mr. Thomas to Gerda Glick; I, Bud Rogers, will my car troubles to David Kelly; I, Claudine Pickett, my Monday morn- ing absences to Vern Klevgard. I, Sharon Ehlers,-.leave my driving ability to Phil Smith (he needs it); Roberta Reeves and Mary Wright will their quietness and answers in the text books to Joel Orton and Jim Brandon; I, Walt Salmonsen, being one of the registered wolves in Sheridan High, will 50% of my wolfing ability to D. C. Hodges; I, Larry Schulz, my blonde curly hair to Jim Brandon; I, Jay Shafer, my ability to get along with the referees to Art Bieler; I, Carol Wright, my ability to hurry to Scott Russell; I, Carol McKenzie, leave my ability for being late to Tom Bray; I, Sharon Long, the blonde streaks in my hair to Ella Rae Elser; I, Gloria Costle, leave my car and boyfriends to Carla Salmonsen; I, Carolyn Braach, my ability for getting into trouble to anyone who wants it; I, Spike Donegan, my science fiction books and all other books to Mr. Thomas. Class History Twenty-three eager first graders boarded the train on their long journey in search of knowledge back in September of 1942. They were: Richard Hansen, Danny Mortensen, Leona Hiller, Jack Jones, Tommy Hart, Lonie Stringham, Jay Shafer, Larry Schulz, Sharon Ehlers, Mary Wright, Claudine Pickett, Sharon Long, Joe Blaziena, Karen Dillard, Shirley Richards, Janice Baker, Carolyn Braach, Helen Blakely, Gloria Costle. Ellis Donegan, Anson Reynolds, Doris Talbott, and John Woodward. At our first stop we find twenty-one eighth graders receiving their diplomas from their conductor, Mr. Murray. Our next move is on a higher level; as we move on we find a new crew. At the head of this crew is Mrs. S. P. Kitt, our sponsor. We elect officers to lead us, these being: Anson Reynolds, president; Bud Rogers, vice president; Sharon Long, secretary-treasurer; Jay Shafer, student council representative. We lose from our roll-call Marilyn Robinson, and Jack Jones and gain Shirley Grant, Roberta Reeves, Carol McKenzie and Bud Rogers. As we start on again we find a new set of officers in Larry Schulz, president; Phil Norton, vice presi- dent; Carol McKenzie, secretary-treasurer; Sharon Ehlers, student council representative. We again have lost some of the crew, Roberta Reeves, Duane Prewett, Shirley Grant, and Bill Janson, but we have gained some new faces in LaRae Daley and Carol Wright. As Juniors we find several new members like Glorianne Stafford, Betty Jo Myers, and Roberta Reeves who has rejoined us at this point of our trip. But again we lose two members, Anson Reynolds and Donna Hjort. At this spot we are entitled to be guests of our mothers at the Junior-Senior Banquet which we at- tend in a group. Also we sponsor the Junior Prom with Mary Wright being chosen as the Junior Princess to attend the queen, lone Herzog. The theme for our prom is Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The gym is decorated with a large rainbow extended over the east end and ending in a pot of gold at one end and in a castle at the other. Bluebirds are hung from an overhead sky of blue and are sprinkled with snow to make them stand out. The orchestra is Ed Bowman's of Butte and as a whole it is rated a success. On the last day of school the entire class goes on a picnic to the Axolotl Lake above Virginia City then upon re- turning home journey to Silver Star for a swim. We have won our one and only place in the annual amateur show this year by placing third. Our officers for this year are: Phil Norton, president; Ken Cous- ins and Larry Schulz, vice presidents, with each serving for half a year as we gained and lost Ken within the same year; LaRae Daley, secretary; Bud Rogers, treasurer; and Mary Wright, student council represen- tative. Carol McKenzie was the delegate from our class to the Girls' State held at Billings and Larry Schulz, Ellis Donegan and Walt Salmonsen were the delegates to Boys' State held in Dillon. 46 We return to the halls for the final time on August 31, to reign as the high and mighty seniors. During this year we select Bud Rogers, president; Claudine Pickett, vice president; Doris Talbott, secretary, Sharon Long, treasurer; and Lonie Stringham, student council representative. We have lost from our ranks again two members: Glorianne Stafford and Phil Norton. In our final year of supremacy we sponsor the Senior Ball at Christmas time with Joe Briney's orchestra. The gym is decorated in the colors of the festive sea- son red and green with large pine trees gaily decorated throughout the room. Janice Baker is the dele- gate from our class for the DAR award given by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Juniors sponsor the Junior Prom in our honor this year on May 8th with the Junior Princess, Gerda Glick, as our queen's attendant. The gym is decorated in red and white with the theme being the Moulin Rouge.” On May 17th we are again guests of our mothers at the Junior-Senior Banquet which is held in the Bethany Hall. On May 21 we take our sneak day by going to Helena and touring throughout the capital building and then going to eat. As we round out our twelve years of school we find twenty-one seniors seated on the stage hearing the baccalaureate services which is being presented by Mrs. Brim. Next we find them again seated on the same stage awaiting their diplomas, the date is May 26 and the time is 8:15, finally that great moment has arrived and they start calling forth the names of the graduates. As we march for- ward to receive our diplomas, we recall all the wonderful things that we have learned and accomplished by being members of a high school group. Looking around we find eleven members of this class who have completed all their twelve school years together. They are pictured below: Back row, left to right: Sharon Ehlers, Carolyn Braach, Janice Baker, Gloria Costle, Claudine Pickett, Sharon Long, and Mary Wright. Front row: Jay Shafer, Ellis Donegan, Larry Schula, and Lonie Stringham.
