The Sophomore Class started out this year with Kristi Robertson as Football Homecoming Princess and Steve Bruce as her escort. With hard work and long hours spent on the float, the Sophomores received second place again this year. The tradition of receiving and giving class rings was carried out as in the past. For Basketball Homecoming Princess. Janet Nunnally was chosen. Her escort was Kent Wright. This year was a great year for the Sophomores and now they await an even better year to come. The theme for their float was “Spur the Warriors” and they chose April Yeater to represent them as their Football Homecoming Princess. For Basketball, Melinda Louks was chosen as their Prin- cess. The Frosh girls in Powder Puff knocked off the Soph girls in the first round and came close to beating the Senior girls, but had to settle for runners-up. After this very exciting year they look for three more just like it, especially next year when they get to order their class rings. Special Jobs For Special 42 Janitors: Bill Leap. They brought home four blue ribbons to put in the award trophy case. They also won the spirit award 3 days out of 4 and were presented the spirit stick the last day. They competed in the final four competition on the last day of camp. I am very proud of the job they did at camp and their performance when they were at the games, said Mrs. Ginn, their sponsor. Drill Team Gets 1st At Contest oon PAN The Blackhawk Band and Drill Team are now looking back at this past year as a very exciting one. Many things have been accom- plished and many more plan to be next year. First came Band Camp at Brown County and much hard work was put in. With a schedule set up with eight hours of work a day, every- one was tired at the week’s end. But they knew they had accomplished a lot of things, including knowing the main part of the marching Field Show. After Band Camp, came many more hours of work during the evening after school. Not only getting ready for two marching contests, but also having to perform at five home football games. The band received a Division III at Bush Stadium. At Regional Contest they got a Division II rating. After this the Drill Team had to per- form at all home basketball games. Both the Hawkettes and Brigade got very good ratings at their contests. The Concert Band got a very good rating at a contest at Anderson High School. 53 Showing Spirit 54 Pride Inside Shows Outside Pride Inside Pride In Achieving For Junior High TIM BECK Football: All-Conference x We Believe To Achieve MONTE MOLDEN Football: All-Conference; All-County; All-State JEFF HIATT Football: All-Conference JON PRATER Football: All-Conference JEFF PURKEY Football: All-State Honorable Mention DERRY ZACHERY Track: Junior All-State Honorable Mention STEVE PURDY Football: Junior All-State Honorable Mention CURT AYERS Football: All-Conference GORDIE ACORD Football: All-Conference ANDY PADGETT Football: All-Conference All-State Academics DOUG BARNES Basketball: All-County Honorable Mention All-Sectional Second Team RONDALL GODBEY Football: All-Conference LES NEIBOLD Track: Noel Pickett Award SCOTT VANMETER Golf: All-Conference All-County Special Sports Awards CINDY WHALEY S-Club Athlete of the year TANYA FENNEL Volleyball: All-County ROGER BOYER Baseball: All-Conference RODNEY COLLIER Basketball: All-County All-Conference Academic All-State Honorable Mention All-Suburbua Honorable Mention Pre-Season Honorable Mention All-State S-Club Athlete of the Year 57 Row 1: Les Neibold, Rondall Godbey, Jimmy Grimes, Tim Beck, Monte Molden, Jeff Hiatt, Andy Padgett. Choir The Swing Choir and Choir have put a very ex- citing and active year be- hind them. First for the Concert Choir it was getting ready for the Fall Con- cert. While this was hap- pening the Swing Choir was preparing for the Tri- Central Showcase. The Swing Choir went to Tri- Central High for a whole day learning new actions and practicing for a mass performance that took place that evening. After that both the Choir and Swing Choir were next facing Christ- mas Season. The Choir traveled to many places and did the show at the school. Next was Stunt Night and Spring Finale. s w i i n g c h 0 ■ 1 r Sings With Heartfelt Pride Row 1 Stacey Hicks. Candy Hunt. Bucky Reece. Brad Pickett. Ellen Hinshaw. Stephanie Barnes. Row 2. IN 46063 1 107 Cheers For The Blackhawks Each year we’ve tried our best to be Your truest, most loyal fans To lend support And a rousing cheer! To help you on to victory. The cross country runners whose stamina and grit we admire Who run on and on even when tired. The volleyball girls when their serve is an Ace Or they spike the ball in their opponent's face. The football team as they raise the score, sack the quarterback and block that kick. Sheridan High is always our pick As winter approaches, the sports change But you'll find your loyal fans remain. Each wrestler as he struggles to win Whether by points or through a pin. Each basketball boy who shows his spunk With free throws, steals, and a big slam dunk. With spring the sports move back outdoors We fans are also there Our athletes don’t let us down They give us lots to cheer. Each golfer will make a birdie and shoot below par Our track stars, both boys and girls, run fast and jump far. On the baseball diamond, our pitchers throw strikes While our batters hit home runs. When the game is over S.H.S. has won. - Now. as you move on into the game of life To face an even harder goal Be assured we’ll still be there To give support And a Silent Cheer.
