FROM THIS R.R. 2 Sheridan Indiana 46069 ftiu' Special events Seniors ................ Classes and faculty Organizations........... Sports v ; ■“ ik. . Portraits............... The community was saddened over the deaths of Mr. Harvey O. Harris and Mrs. Mary Alice Godby. Both were long-time loyal employees of the Marion-Adams School System. The students will always remember Mrs. Godby as the cook and Mr. Harris as the bus driver for students and teams. Each were loyal sports fans with Mr. Harris not missing a major sport event in over 13 years. We, the 1979 yearbook staff, salute these two fine citizens. This year's Stunt Night, with the theme of 1 'Music's the Word'', was a success. Prizes were awarded this year. Carolyn Ellis won best solo; This Old House won best group; and Blues Brothers won best walk-on. They gather again in the back room to turn in their gowns and every one starts to say their goodbyes through their tears. GRADUATES The Class of '79 had so much talent they had four valedictorians, Beth Waggoner, Jan Boyer, Kristin Newby and Michele Grinstead. BANQUET HIGHLIGHTS FCA’S YEAR The Sheridan F.C.A. started the year off with a bang by hosting a Chili Supper before a home football game. Throughout the year, fellowship meetings were held at the homes of F.C.A. members including a Christmas Party at the Waggoner's. The highlight of the year was the annual F.C.A. Banquet held in the multi-purpose room. The guest speaker for the event was Mr. Larry Renihan, a past track, football, basketball and cross-country coach at Westfield High School. Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by 1 'The Sound of His Coming of Frankfort, Indiana. In May, F.C.A. members went to King's Island for a recreational activity. Some of the activities headed by the FHA were: a pizza party for the members and their mothers, visiting the nursing home, District Convention, a bowl-a-thon and several others. Each monthly meeting was exciting also, with speakers from Godby's Home Furnishings, The Fidelity Bank and Young's Hayloft, just to name a few. An 8-2 record shows that. The Hawks moving onward after the winning by a mile of their first two games, already had play-off dreams in mind. The tension of the next two games, Zionsville and Hamilton Southeastern, were building though. Close losses by the Hawks was the outcome however, and the play-offs seemed out of reach. But nothing stopped the Hawks. Together the team moved onward and won the last six games in a row. This was the year Rolli Greer broke the state scoring record. As the last game approached, hopes were high, for Rollie was near the record. A touchdown was made and by the end of the game Rolli had a total of 225 points, thus breaking the old state record. The girls' volleyball teams have really had a good season this year. They played better this year than they've ever done in the past three years. The girls are very proud of the new coach and of La Donna Manier. She is the first in four years to receive all county in volleyball. The girls thank Miss King for sticking by them and never giving up. People who missed the girls' volleyball games really missed something this year. They looked very good and had good sportsmanship. Captain and Co-Captain of the Reserve team were Susan Waitt and Susan Kalman. Susan Waitt was very proud of winning Most Improved. 89 GIRLS LOOK GREAT ON COURT The girls1 basketball team had a season they could be proud of. They won more games this year than ever before. They can also be proud of Kristin Newby and Tracey Pettigrew who were picked for All Conference and All County. r i Girls in i •UUI w Spirit Leaders: Tracey Henderson, Kevin Bragg, Keith Rinkenberg and Randy Martin. rk-Tudo inton Ce linton Prairie Lapel Westfield Tourney r Westers y1 ' ■—' oblesvHle ■“' ajnilton SoutJjgastefn H; Us 32 25 41 • Ppp ! 21 13 50 41 li • 41 26 46 1 58 23 40 35 42 47 32 26 26 32 39 82 37 36 43 27 K Seniors: Robin Martin Kristin Newby Tracey Pettigrew Jan Boyer Jeffra Jett Ann Mendenhall Lisa Butcher Kelly Davis Row Is L-R; Ann Mendenhall, Jeffra Jett, Lisa Butcher, Kelly Jones, Cindy Cantrell, Kelly Davis. Although my staff and 1 worked very hard on the making of this book, it would not be complete without the supervision and support of our advisor, Mrs. Virginia Reed. Also many thanks to our yearbook representative Mr. Dick Maurer, and our professional photographer, Mr. Bill Cripe, who was kind enough to break away from his busy schedule to help us throughout the year. But most of all, 1 personally extend my gratitude along with all the students and faculty, to our patrons who purchased advertisements — making financing possible. My senior year is special to me not only because of my graduating classmates, but also of one who isn't graduating, my cousin, Danial Lee Stowers, who died in grade school. I'm sure he will always be remembered by his Marion Grade School classmates. In the fall of '78 the high school students were stumped by the mysteries of Harry Knuckles, Private Eye, and his faithful Wonder Dog, Vivian. The mystery was how to associate name and face; the answer, a yearbook. You now are the possesser of a yearbook to be able to associate names and faces of friends for years to come. I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the contents of this book, and enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed creating the book. Thank you again for purchasing this book, and may all your yearbooks be filled with pleasant memories. Thank you 140 Christopher S. Went . .
