Home, Sheridan High School. A little hick school right in the middle of a cornfield. Located near the birthplace of Phillip Sheridan. The school's population is made up of three groups of people, those from Glenford, Thorn- ville, and Somerset. Let's think for a minute about what went on inside these halls. Like the first day of the freshman year wondering what up- perclassmen would be like. Think how many times we skipped class, and ended up dodging vicious teachers who were more than willing to catch us. Or try to comprehend how many hours of PDA detention were served because of the temptation in these halls. 6 Opening There were a lot of things that weren't so good about these halls though, like be- ing searched by the potty patrol before being able to go to the rest-room. Or how about the odor that filled the hallway during wrestling practice. There was nothing like discovering that someone had stacked your locker; only we always discovered it too late. One of the worst things about the halls was having to watch gorgeous girls walk past you and not being able to touch them. As we review the years we've spent at Sheridan, one of the factors that affected our lives would have been our friends, the ones who understood our past, believed in our future, and accepted us just the way we were. 8 Opening 10 Opening f'-'jOH 12 MAJ VS Above: Enrollee Barb Blackstone gives staff member Jeff Barber a guiding hand. SHS Principal Becomes County Superintendent This year brought around the end of many things: the end of George Orwell’s prophecy for 1984, the end of peace talks with Russia, and the end of the ' recession.'' These all affected us, but the ending that dealt with people of the Northern Local School District specifically was the resigna- tion of Mr. Richard Fisher. For half of Sheridan High School's existence Mr. Fisher was the principal or Big Guy. After having served the school district in many capacities he assumed the respon- sibility of principal in 1972. Within Mr. Fisher's first three years he raised the academic standing to the level needed to get into the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This as he said was his most memorable event of his 12 year stay. Mr. Fisher has a firm belief in Sheiidan High School and pride in both the faculty and the students. Many times during his sojourn at Sheridan, Mr. Fisher had to handle many dif- ferent types of disturbances from hallway fights to van- dalism in and around the school. When commenting on how he faced these types of problems he said that first you have to realize that it is just a few students out of approx- imately 700. It is not a majority. Then just be patient, even- tually the details will slip out and I'll get them.'' When asked what one thing he would like to see changed at Sheridan High School, Mr. Fisher replied that he wouldn't change anything involving the way the school ex- panded to meet the growing needs; however, he would in- crease the space for such areas as computer room, a teacher study area, lab space for vocational instruction, and science labs and room for proper stage and musical acoustics. As of the first day of August 1984. Mr. Fisher became the superintendent for the schools of Perry County. Mr. Fisher served the school with a strict hand, but his office was always open to those people wishing to talk with him no matter what the purpose. Mr. Fisher will be missed by all who have known him. It's not good-bye. but I'll see you!” During the Thanks for the Memories” get together with faculty and staff, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fisher are really amused as they listen to the many items that are willed to Mr. Fisher to take with him to the county job. As he makes his last announcement, Mr Fisher cautions the student body to be serious about their work unto the end: It's not over til it's over! On the evening of May 31, 1984 Mr. and Mrs Fisher enjoy the friends' appreciation dinner, Thanks for the Memories!” Mother Generals: Sandy Daley, Irene Lentz, Vicki Factor, Donna Loughman, Nancy Shumaker, Norma Wagner, Katie Carpenter presented Mr. Fisher with a sign to show their true feelings Always ready to help others. |oe Bagley prepares to give Dad” Fisher a Christmas gift 125 Time When I was young I never stopped to smell the roses, now I am old and don't have enough time for love. We always say that we will do everything, but you'll find there's not enough time for it all. We always say that we are too busy to enjoy our lives to their fullest reaches. Sometime, somewhere stop a moment, close your eyes and dream for today. When someday you see a young child, who is wasting time dreaming for tomorrow. Teach him how to love his fellow man, take his hand and show him the way. So take a minute and smell a single flower, before all your time flys away. Time, time there is not enough time, not for love, not for living today. Time, time there is not enough time .. . Where did it go, why did it fly away.
