Silja Olsbo, came to us from Turka, Finland. Silja came to the United States through a program called Youth for Understanding. Silja was here from the beginning of the school year through January. While at Sheridan, she was involved in Cross Country, choral, and drama class, all of which she en- joyed very much. Silja went to ('.anal Winchester from Sheridan and returned home in June. Opening 13 SOPHOMORE ATTENDANT 1 4 Homecoming 1982 Homecoming On October 1, 1982, Sheridan held its annual homecoming. Darlene Cannon was selected as queen for this year. Freshman Ylarabeth Smith, sophomore Leann Snider, junior Christy Fouch, and senior Brenda Crossan served as the queen's attendants. Before the game, the queen and her court paraded around the football field in Corvettes. After being crowned by Student Council President Karen Walker, Darlene Cannon thanked her parents, friends, and fellow students. After her speech, the queen was escorted to her seat to watch the football game against the Philo Electrics. In the close game, the Generals defeated Philo by a score of 6-0. After the game, the students attended the dance in the £ m. Spring Musical 21 Treasure Island Is Prom Theme This year the junior-senior prom was held on Saturday, May 14th. The junior class chose the theme of ‘‘Treasure Island at the class meeting in March. The side walls of the gymnasium were decorated with a water scene on one side and a thick underbrush of jungle forest on the other. The concession stand was inside a cave at one end of the gym, and pictures were taken at a waterfall along the side wall. The Nelson Foucht Sextet provided the music for the dance. Dinner of shrimp, stuffed potatoes, cole slaw, and rolls with fish shaped butter were served with an appetizer of pina colada. Strawberry cheesecake was the dessert. Waiters were dressed as pirates. The invocation was given by Jeff Barber, and after the dinner, junior class president Scott Eickelberger gave the welcome. President of the senior class, John Tracy gave the response. For entertainment, John Tracy gave the history of the senior class, and Scott Eickelberger read “The Search of the Class of '83' which was the prophecy written by the junior class. After the dance anyone wishing to, went to see “Max Dugan Returns” at Cinema 4. Breakfast was waiting at the school for all still awake when they returned. (The Shumaker Brothers) Prom 23 The reward of a thing well done is to have done it — Ralph Waldo Emerson The 1983 Awards Night was held on May 17. Members of the Student Council, Quiz Team, and Scholarship Teams were honored for their participation. Four students from the junior and senior classes with the top scores on the American Legion Americanism Test were awarded. Also, scholarship recipients were recognized. All one's life is music, if one touches the notes rightly and in time — Ruskin On Sunday, May 29, the members of the class of 1983 gathered for the Baccalaureate — Commencement in the high school gym. The seniors chose Pink and Gray as their class colors, Pink Sweetheart Roses with Silver Ribbon as their flower, and “Dream A Dream” as the class song. They also selected a quotation by Etienne De Grellet as the class motto. The senior class officers were: John Tracy, President; Jeff Dawson, Vice-President; Kathy Coble, Secretary; and Jennifer Canaday, Treasurer. The Processional was played by the high school band and was directed by Nicholas Calderone. The Valedictorian, Susan Lynn Shelly; Salutatorian, Lisa Christine Johnson; and the members of the National Honor Society led the senior class onto the stage. The Invocation and Bac- calaureate address was given by Reverend Henry C. Seibert of Thornville Grace Lutheran Church. After the Valedictory and Salutatory, the seniors sang the class song. Superintendent Bert Severance then presented the Valedictorian and Salutatorian awards. After the singing of the Alma Mater and the presentation of the class of 1983 by Principal Richard Fisher, diplomas were presented by school board members, James Hanson and Paul Ream.
