Paris in the Spring This year the junior-senior prom was held on Saturday May 12. The theme of the prom was “Paris in the Spring. The sidewalls of the gym were decorated with scenes of Paris including Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, and Sidewalk cafes. There was a garden on the stage and a caf6 at the other end of the gym. Prom couples entered the gym through the Arc-De-Triomphe. The dinner began with a trip to a salad bar. Afterwards ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and iced tea were served with a sundae for dessert. After dinner the class history could not be found, but the class prophecy was given by Brigitte Kullman. Afterwards dance music was provided by Crosswinds. Later in the eve- ning the prom couples were shown a movie, “The Promise” in Newark and a breakfast of French pastries was served at the school. Teachers as well as students enjoy the prom scenery. Many prom couples enjoyed dancing fast and slow dances to the sounds of Cross- winds. Crosswinds, the band for the prom, featured a female lead vocalist in most of their songs. Sitting in the gazebo where the prom pictures were taken are some of the prom goers. Prom waiters Craig Snider, Tim DeLamatre, and Nick Gaskins worked in the cafe to serve drinks. 22 Prom

Graduation is only a moment, but its effects span a lifetime Under the direction of Mrs. Mechling, the graduates sang the class song, Old Irish Bless- ing. On Sunday, May 27 the combined baccalaureate and gradua- tion exercises were held in the high school gymnasium. The sen- ior class was dressed in the traditional caps and gowns in red. The invocation and baccalaureate addresses were given by Reverend Don Bachman of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville. Co-Valed- ictorians Joel Drew Loughman and Jacqueline Louise Clouse jointly addressed the audience. The class song, Old Irish Bless- ing”, was sung by the graduates under the direction of Mrs. Mechling. After the presentation of the Valedictorian awards by Superintendent Bert Severance the Alma Mater was sung. Diplo- mas were presented by school board members Dave McGaughey, Thomas Hill, and Robert Forsythe. Vocational diplomas were pre- sented by Jerry Blackstone. A group of chorus members then sang the Benediction which was followed by the band's playing of the recessional. Before the graduation exercises. Seniors Deb Davy and Mary Henderson get ready for the proces- sional.
