Exchange programs expose students to new cultures Again this year Sheridan High School hosted foreign exchange students from both Mexico and Japan. Martha Tap- pan was from Mexico City, Mexico. She enjoys tennis and gym- nastics. She stayed with the Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Winegard- ner family and the Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Eagle family. The other exchange student, Yukie Harada, was from Toyko, Japan. She enjoys piano, music, and poetry. She stayed with the Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rouse family. Yukie was a senior and partici- pated in the Sheridan High School Graduation exercises. Cheering in an SHS pep cheer at the Dare to be Different pep rally are the foreign exchange students, Martha Tappan and Yukie Harada. Walking along a Tokyo street is Yukie Har- ada. Foreign exchange student Yukie Harada receives her grade card from Mr. Stilwell. STATE FIRST PLACE AMERICAN HISTORY TEAM: BACK: Mr. Harry Hoover, adviser. FRONT: Mike Kelly, Lisa McGlone, and David Gotschall. Awards Night ’79 This year Awards Night was held on May 27th. Pins were given to the students on the honor roll 4 or 5 times. Chris Haley was presented the Century III award. Joel Loughman received the DAR award. Leadership award, and was also named the Artist of the Year. Jackie Clouse received the newly created Lucille Love award presented by Mr. Ed Taylor and Miss Lucille Love. Jackie Clouse also received the Ohio Academic Scholarship. First year scholarship members were presented varsity letters and 2nd year members were given certificates. Vocational awards were given in the areas of Home Ec., BOE, and Vo. Ag. Again this year the last part of the eve- ning proved to be the most exciting with many scholarship teams doing very well, but.the climax came when it was announced that the American History Team placed first in the state again this year. Receiving an award for 5th in the district and honorable mention in state scholar- ship competitions in French II is Tim DeLamatre. This year for the first time the Lucille Love Award was given. Presenting the award to Jackie Clouse is Miss Lucille Love. Presenting the Leadership award to Student Council President Joel Loughman is principal Mr. Richard Fisher. Receiving the I Dare You awards are juniors Jackie Boyer and Mike Kelly. SCHOLAR ATHLETES: Mike Kelly, junior; Renee LeRoy, senior; Darcy Dornon and Rick LeRoy, soph- omores. Awards Night 19
