More than half of the fans at our football games are our parents. Our parents have also participated in our school in such things as Band Boosters, Parent Advisory Committee, etc. Things like this let us know that they care. We know that there are some parents that can't make it to the games and other school activities, but there is another kind of support that may be even more important bringing up their kids and encouraging them to do the right thing. People are always commending our school on how new it looks, being several years old, and how good the moral standards are in our school. This is a compliment to the pride of our school, but equally so it is a compliment to the parents and the example they set for their kids. So, Parents, we want to let you know that we're proud of you and thankful that God gave you to us. THIS YEAR'S SPECIAL DEDICATIO I T0 R. CARL P. KU ICK f MW .1 f YAY by A s If Q X, f 'f ' x . . I 1 l Eglxbh um' N' v N nz 'X J f fu' 1' ' x -N ,f- I K su Mr. Kusick retired in September 1978 as Assistant Superintendent of Sheridan School District 9942. He came to Sheridan in September of 1952 as a math teacher the first year, became acting principal, and then principal. He headed Sheridan High School for nineteen years and was assistant superinten- dent of the school district for sev- en years. At the time the high school started in 1952, they didn't even have a building: they used two buildings at Fort Logan Army Post, with plywood walls to separate classes, until Christmas of the first year. There were 18 seniors in the first graduating class. Comparing the students of 1952 and 1978, Mr. Kusick said, The school started from scratch, and the students really appreciated having a school of their own. The school pride of the first stu- dent body has carried over all these years, he added. The num- ber of students out for activities shows that they really participate, and the kids have really shown they like their school, said Mr. Kusick. Asked if he had a message for to- day's students, Mr. Kusick said, It is my firm belief that all young people ought to have as much education as they can. This is their opportunity to get a good basis for their responsibilities when they assume their places in today's society. If there's anything that they need, it's a good educational background. Goodbye and good luck, Mr. Ku- sick! THE LAST OF THE 7 'S The class of 1979 is proud to graduate as the last class of the 70's. As they leave the halls of Sheridan High School they take with them many memories. In this yearbook a special Senior Section is dedicated to the Seniors where they will be reminded of the happy times spent in high school. In the pages that follow, you too can share in the happy times of this class. S 1 Once agaln, the Rams' hopes of a state cham- P E 1 i plonshlp ln football were deferred. In another year, another season, maybe next year, it would happen. After a flawless season, 7 and 0 ln league play, the Rams came up against Buena Vista in the State Playoffs on the bitter cold after- noon of November 11. After a hard fought game, the Demons edged by Sheridan 16-14, and suddenly the football season came to a thundering end. We realized It was all over, even as Mr. Webb was congratulating the wln- ners over the loud speaker and the people were streaming out of the stadium. All the hopes had been destroyed ln the last few sec- onds of play. Hope deferred, says the Scrlpture, makes the heart sick. There was heartbreak for the Rams and their fans, but the Rams were valiant even In defeat. And the elusive state championship would have to walt untll next year. l Outstanding Players: Jim Baker: 1st team off. center, Honor- able Mention def. linebacker, second team all-state. The undefeated Rams in Metro- League, went to the District Tour- nament and came out with the first place trophy. The whole team contributed to make Sheridan NUMBER ONE. Six of our individuals excelled to gain a birth in the State Tourna- ment. They were Clinton Wil- liams, Joaquin Mendoza, Angelo Sandoval, Keith Prach, Jerry Toney, and James Pride. Keith, Jerry, and Clinton took first place in their weight classes. Joaquin, Angelo, and James took second in their weight divisons. Keith Prach was the only Ram who made it to the State Champion- ship. He lost to his man to take second place in the state. Sending the entire team to state, the young third year team has fared to greatness, and is continuing to become even more sensational. Placing fourth place in state competition with 120.55 points, they bowed only to third place Eaton, 129.05 points, second place University, 129.75 points, and first place Steamboat Springs, 144.55 points. The whole team showed exceptional skill, but there were some who excelled to greater heights. Senior TATE Cindy Knudson on the uneven bars. Cindy Knudson on the winners stand for UP and Over, Bev CGOHZGIGSJ. All-around standings. Cindy Knudson was excellent in the individual contests. She pulled out third place in the AIl-Around standings with fourth place in the uneven bars and the balance beam, and fifth in the floor exercises. Another member of the mighty Ram team who contributed to its success was senior Bev Gonzales who took sixth in the vault. It is evident that Sheridan High School will become even more recognized, as the relatively new team con- tinues to improve. With this, we congratulate the 1979 team and Coach Charlene Lewis, and wish good luck to next year's team. He's a man responsive to a child's laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again. He's a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life hot coffee held in numbed, unbending fingers the flush of fresh air pumping through smoke and fire convulsed lungs a warm bed for bone and muscle compelled be- yond feeling the comraderie of brave men the divine peace of selfless service and a job well done in the name of all men. He doesn't wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities and when he marches, it is to honor a fallen comrade. He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man. He lives it.
