No break away this time! With Roaring Fork's Tracy Cerise hanging on, Gifford Dudley was unable to gain much on this play. Such was the case most of the day as Sheridan was defeated by Roaring Fork 24-6 and eliminated in this season's state playoffs. Other players shown: 464 J. Toney, 417 P. Soria, 350 K. Reifschneider. SEASON RECAP: After an impressive 33-6 win over AAA Mapleton, Sheridan traveled to Brush for its second game of the year and was handed a 7-6 defeat by the Beetdiggers, who were eventual state champion runners-up. Then the Rams proceeded to reel off nine straight victories, enabling them to win their 7th Metro League championship and advance to the state playoffs. Included in this string was a 53-15 Homecoming win over Clear Creek. In the state playoffs, Sheridan opened the preliminary round with a fashionable 49-6 win over outclassed Manitou Springs. Then, in one of Sheridan's finest and most thrilling games ever, the Rams topped 41 ranked and undefeat- ed Yuma by a score of 22-21 in overtime. This game took its toll, however, as many of the top players were injured and unable to heal up totally for the next encounter. As a result, Sheridan went down to defeat, 24-6, by Roaring Fork, which went on to conquer Brush the next week for the state champion ship. While the Rams didn't win the big prize, they played impressively and provided thrills and excitement for those who followed and backed them. There were many players who contributed to this year's success. In the line Bryan Amen, Jerry Toney, Kurt Reifschneider, Randy Weems, Dave Bunnell, Gary Sedgwick, Shawn Lord, and Jay Ed- wards were most prominent. In the backfield, labeled as lightning in a bottle, speedy Gifford Dudley, Kurt Wol- lenweber, Ed Dudley, and Pat Soria led the way. There were many other contributors, as well, including those who led the JV team to an undefeated season. The varsity finished the season with a 10-2 record, having lost only to the state champion and runnerup. A fine season, indeed. Photo by Bill Peters The Denver Post
