They tried everything from trying ro get on rhe sers, ro sneaking a peek ar Robert Urich Through his borhroom window! Those few monrhs proved exciting ro many, and educational ro others. Having members of rhe filming crew visit rhe High School was an asser ro drama srudenrs, and local talents’ learning. Such an event occurred December 15,1981, rhe day Drian Knie-vel crashed through a glass door in rhe old gym. Mr. Isakson and Mr Wilson happened to be walking rhe campus grounds and witnessed rhe accident. Due to their quick thinking and first-aid knowledge they were able to stop rhe bleeding until rhe 911 ambulance arrived. Mr. Isalsson and Mr. Wilson made quick and calm decisions as a very critical moment in a young boy's life. The doss prepares students for their written driver's rest or the Port of Entry. This also enables o student driver to receive a discount on his or her insurance. Students start our driving simulators ond later advance to driving the actual cars. Mrs. Torberr qualified for retirement, bur asked for and was given, another year. Foreign language stu dents attended conferences in borh Powell and Casper. Some important changes occurred that centered around the reorganization of classes with more emphasis on changes for college-bound students. College preparatory classes available to students were,- Expository Writing, Logic, General Semantics, English Literature, and Grammar. Most English teachers were able to reach the classes of their preference. This contributed to the student teacher relationship. If rhis doss was token, consumer morh was raken ofrer rhor ro moke ir complete. If you really liked morh you could work up ro Trigonomerry or Analytical Geomerry. Formulas, phylums, and physics are studied in rhe Science Deparrmenr. The mosr basic class was General Sd-ence. You could work yourself up ro physics, rhis class was one of rhe mosr difficult. Mr IXopsteod FOCUSING ON THE PAST The Social Studies Department really believes in student activities because it reaches students a lor of the same kind of skills taught in the classroom. Mr. Hurt had said this about the department as a whole. There weren't any new changes made in the department, bur in the upcoming year, 1983, Physical Anthropology will be changed to Archaeology. Classes Hang In There The Physicol education department- added a new teacher and a new class. Mr. David Hoefr was the new reacher, also coach of gymnastics for the boys and girls reams. The new class was physical condi rioning, offered to all Juniors and Seniors and taught by Bruce Keith. Music reacher Ms Scharz also helped ease the class load and used her P.E. certification by reaching a class. Child Development was a new class offered to students this year. In this class rhe students learned rhe different stages of a growing child. There was also a mini-course offered in Career Guidance . A major activity that occured in rhe Voc Ed Deportment was rhe remodeling of rhe Vocational Arts building. There wos still o bit of mechanical and electrical work to be done bur rhe rest of rhe work was mostly finished. New windows also needed to be installed to march rhe rest of rhe buildings. The carpentry class also added storage capacity to rhe Ag. building. Anyway a student looks or this department, he sees practicality. Registering, counseling students with personal problems, schedule changing, and filling our scholarship application forms ore o few of many responsibilities of rhe counselors. Also rhe counselor offered a career minicourse which provided students with information about potential careers. With rhe encouragement and help of Mrs. Dunning, many students signed up for this course. Mainstreaming with special education was another new job of rhe counselors. The charge for regular lunch was $2 00, and reduced rote was $100. At these prices, it mode rhe trek downtown to o fast food place even more attractive for most srudenrs and those wirh cars found rhe option easier yet. There were, of course, those days when rhe specialities such as Cowboy Hats, or hot dogs attracted almost everybody in rhe school, even dedicated dieters. The handles and hinges were ol way's coming loose. Mr. Smiley said that rhe student’s kept rhe vandalism down and kept rhe halls clean. They continued until rhe ambulance arrived. In spire of all rhe efforts ro revive rhe man he was dead on arrival ar rhe Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
