The year started at the trails end restaurant were new council members were given the oath of office. Work started immediatly with the 1976 clean-up day. Student Council had a well organized form of participation and clean-up day was a successful begining. After three months of vacation the 1976-77 council went right to work. Mrs. Peg Weaver was installed as government advisor. Freshmen class elections were organized and held. Eight new council members took the oath of office and were ready to at least try and represent their class. Student Senate was also organized and the other branch of student government soon went into effect. Work soon began on one of student council and senate's biggest projects: HOMECOMING. Committees were formed, meetings were attended, ideas were brought up, and soon council and senate were in full swing. One major project was the homecoming assemblies for crowning king and queen. A very hard working committee of juniors, sophomores, and frosh, tryed, and successfully handled a handled a handfuli of senior royalty candidates. While ail the work on assemblies was going on, every extra minute was spent by dedicated government members in building a beautiful royalty float. While the float was coming together, yet another group was busy deciding details on the homecoming dance and the parade. After homecoming the council rested a tew days, then back to work. Pep assemblies were decided, an attendance policy was installed, and a point system was worked out. Not all committees were successful, but over all government did a very good job. Through the holidays council sponsored a Halloween dress up day, and joined with senate to form committees for the winter festival. A number of clubs helped out in making festival very successful. Council stated the 1977 year by raising money for a Buffalo camp for the handicapped. New senators were elected, and Council and Senate worked hard to put on a dance, a disco, a 50's day, and a fun raiser game between the SHS Senior basketball players, and the CYO Eagles. They also worked to get the library dedicated to Martha Hue ling, and a Student Exchange to Gillette. Major projects carried on through the year were the school news report on KWYO and the attendence of the Sheridan School Board Meetings. They also held student body elections, which erupted and ended up with five strong seniors and one sponsor standing behind constitutional law. Class elections were held and soon a breakfast was held with the end of the 1976-1977 Student Council. Student Senate soon ended its term by the end of school. PICTURED TO THE LEFT is some of the 1976-77 Student Council. The 1976-77 officers were (PICTURED ABOVE LEFT) President Tod Windsor, Vice President Kathleen Yale, Secretary Sandy Sare, and Treasurer Sandy Scott. Seniors were best represented by council members David Voogd, PICTURED ABOVE FAR LEFT with Mrs. Weaver. Other seniors were Kathy Hoyer, Darla Worden, Amy Ray, Kim Fry, John Gutz, Trish Pooley, and Barbra Vigil. Juniors were also well represented by Liz Benson, Phyllis Broock, and Greg Coleman. Other juniors were Laurie Fall, Kathy Johnson, Judy Allison, Charlie Paterson, and Becky Legerski. The entire Sophomore Class was very dedicated to council. They were Dorothy Williams, Don Brytus, Shelly Felde, Jim Russel, Holly Wintermutte, Susan Juroszek, Bob Harper, and Greg Hall. The freshmen were Don Brantz, Casey Carey, Julie Alden, Mike Evanoff, Pat Lupeziwetz, Anni Ladd, Jerry Jones, and Drew Kinney. STUDENT SENATE Student Senate is a government organization headed by Kathleen Yale, Student Body Vice President. Members of Senate come from homerooms, in which they are elected to represent. Students enrolled in any Distributive Education programs are eligible for membership in the local, state, and national DECA. DECA Chapters meet once a year in state competition. The 1976-1977 Sheridan High School DECA president, John Rotellini, won first place in the state public speech. This entitled him to compete on the national level. PICTURED TO THE LEFT are the 1976-77 DECA officers, and ABOVE the 1976-77 DECA Chapter including officers. CHESS CLUB FBLA was designed for business students, DECA for DE students, Art Club for art students, GAL for girl athletes, S-Club for boy athletes, Honor Society for smart students, and Chess Club for students interested in Chess. Chess Club is the newest club at Sheridan High School, designed for the student interested in the art of Chess. Chess Club is not just for those who know how to play chess, but for those who are interested in learning the game. BELOW are the Charter Members of Sheridan High School Chess Club. 179 FBLAERS' HAVE BEST WORKING YEAR The 1976-77 Sheridan Chapter of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) listed ten members for the year. PICTURED ABOVE ARE (TOP ROW) seniors David Voogd, Barb Vigil, and John Rotellini; (MIDDLE ROW) juniors Charolet Lyman, Tammy Legerski, and Collen Siebert; (BOTTOM ROW) sophomores Becky Hover, and Dawn Jorden. NOT PICTURED are senior Mary Hover, and junior Doreen Harper, FBLA is not open to Frosh. The major project of the FBLA Chapter is sending delegates to the state conference to compete. Eight Sheridan delegates were sent, Dawn and Mary did not attended. Within the group were two voting delegates, Charolet and Doreen, and a candidate for state secretary, Colleen. Money for the FBLA trip was raised with two projects, The first was a bake sale, in which a profit was very small. The second was the making and selling of the girls state swimming program, A very large profit was made, PICTURED ON THE OPPOSITE PAGE are the SHS FBLAers' at the State Conference in Powell, AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE Doreen, Barb, David, Colleen, and Becky await the start of the awards banquet. AT THE TOP, TO THE FAR RIGHT, Becky, John, Charolet, and Tammy seem to be having fun in bed? IN THE MIDDLE John introduces Colleen, who prepares to give a speech written five minutes earlier. IN THE MIDDLE, FAR RIGHT, Becky and John are PICTURED with the past state vice president. The Sheridan Chapter seemed to have a certain magic in their rowdy personnel. They became very closely acquainted to many FBLA members from around the state. Also, Becky shows a little of the emotion the Sheridan Chapter had for each other, they were all very close. AT THE BOTTOM the girl delegates seemed very proud of their male members for doing so very good at the convention. Both David and John placed. Sponsor Mr. Stewart presented FBLA members with the following awards at the Honors Assembly: Tammy Legerski-Outstanding Chapter President, Tammy represent Sheridan in the stage flag presentation; John Rotellini-Outstanding Senior Boy, Charter Member, and 2nd in Mr. FBLA; Barbra Vigil-Outstanding Senior girl; and David Voogd-Outstanding Member, Charter President, and 4th in Accounting II. Barb and David were the FBLA homecoming candidates. The 1976-77 Chapter of FBLA is proud of David Voogd for winning the Kiwanis Vocational Scholarship and using at a Business school. Good Luck David, Barb, John, and Mary. 180 181 BLACK GUARD IS ALL TOGETHER OUR FEARLESS LEADERS UPPER I£FT: Jack Boyko, Kay Winters, Bessie Sickler, Mark McManus UPPER RIGHT: Color Guard-Mike Mark, Bessie Sicklar, TarriVoogd, Fred Moye.
