These outstanding senior Honor Society me mix? rs have much to look forward to in the future. The Class of 1962 A class of 227 students anxiously awaited the events of graduation. Their last three days of school were almost entirely devoted to taking final exams. Senior dress-up day was May 16th, signifying their last day of school. However, they returned daily to the building on top of the hill to practice marching for the following graduation exercises. Friday May 18th found the seniors at the school cafeteria at 7:30 A.M. for their traditional senior breakfast. At 1:45 that afternoon the senior awards assembly and sing out were held. Numerous scholarships and honors were presented at that time. The appropriate songs for sing out brought tears to the eyes of not only the seniors but also to the eyes of many underclassmen. Sunday May 20th the baccalaureate service was held in the afternoon with the Reverend Louis Haruf delivering the sermon. Although the weather was not too favorable Monday, May 21st, the seniors still held their picnic at Story. The climaxing event was commencement which was held May 22nd at 8 P.M. in the high school gymnasium. The commencement ceremony was conducted for the first time by the graduating class. Addresses were given by John Greenfield and Margaret Shork, honor students, and Nick Birchby, an accomplished violinist, played three solos. After the distribution of diplomas the graduated seniors marched out into the wide world with tears in their eyes and smiles on their faces. 54 Mixed emotions. What do I do now, and where do I go? With smiles, songs, and sniffs the the seniors emerge into the wide world. Graduation — a family affair. They had to work hard to be top sellers, as the competition was keen. Under the outstanding supervision of the class sponsors, Mrs. Embry and Mr. Lillibridge, the class of f63 set an all time school record on the sales of magazines. The purpose of the magazine sales campaign is to increase the financial status. Most of this money is used for Prom and Cowtown, which are yearly projects of the Junior class. The remainder of this money is given, in scholarship form, to an outstanding member of the class. Juniors at Work and Play Here we find an American History class studying their American Observer, a required course for graduation. Under the outstanding leadership 01 Mrs. Embry and Mr. Lilibridge, the Class of 1963 completed a very successful Junior Year. 60 It looks as if Kllen Robb and Keith Bales are having a good time as they round out the corners of the square dance. Where are your chaps, Cowboy? Juniors Put On Cowtown Shela Shreve and Ken Ellenwood find the music perfect for dancing western style. With the help of the farmer members of the Junior Class, Cowtown was a successful kickoff to the activities of the year. Rancher Jake and Farmer Kate supplied the class with an abundance of hay bales. The theme of the dance. Hillbilly Heaven, was carried out perfectly with the placement of several silhouettes of famous western singers around the floor. The band stand represented a cloud. The Sophomore Class Officers are: Jim Rhodes, Vice-President; Vicky Boley, Treasurer; Jim Howell, President; Mary Riley, Secretary. The Sophomore Class has some very good student representatives as you can see in their Students of the Month, in their class officers, and in the various school activities they participate in. Becoming a Student of the Month is an honor every student should strive to achieve. They are based on scholarship and the amount of effort put forth in the classroom. These students are selected by the Student Council after a teacher has nominated them. The Sophomore students have worked hard in both their studies and extracurricular activities in order to become good upperclassmen next year. They are certain to achieve this if they keep up their good work. 68 Are Looking Forward Rodney Adams Sandi Adams Tim Adams Vance Ahlstrom Suzy Araas Wesley Armstrong Nanine Arney John Atchison Betty Ault David Baas Maureen Badgett Bruce Baker Karen Barker Pat Barker Ray Barney Russell Bessette Mike Baxter Terry Berg Connie Best Carol Bilyeu Bryan Bokenkroger Stephanie Booras Stuart Briggs Vivian Briggs Vicki Boley Carol Bondi Nikki Booras Neil Brown Bill Bruce Carol Bruce David Bumbaca Betty Bush Lawrence Buskirk Eddie Calkins Ken Calkins Joan Carter Fielding Childress Sandra Clark Lily Coats Barbara Coffin Dave Conley Jo Lee Connors Donna Cotton Tom Couch Mary Liz Crilly Marie Dawdy Laura Dickey Lorraine Dodson Janice Donnafield Linda Dowdell Sharon Eads Tom Ebzery Rick Eccli Shirley Ellis Jeanne Ewan Scotty Ferguson Dennis Findley Lynn Finlayson Marion Fisher Norman Fisher n V Sharon Gillenwater Jim Gillespie Beth Gilliam Bob Gillis Mary Gillis Peggy Gilson Patricia Goodman Jim Green Stuart Grinnell Sharon Grotz Ann Guyer Shari Gwinn Ray Kelley Jim Kerbel Cheryl Kimble John Kostenbauer Chris Kraft Jerry Krezelok Bob Kuzara Hannelore Langkait Paul Landreth Fred Larson Jackie Lee Jermaine Lehr Next Year’s Cowtown, Prom, Pat Hannify Bill Hansen George Hansen Kerry Harnish Pam Harper Gayle Heckenlively Shirley Helen Pat Heinz Jo Ann Hereford Susan Hicks Susan Hill Judy Iloblitt Charles Holmes Rosalie Houck Jim Howell Dave Lipman Louise Livingston Pat Livingston Diane Logan Frances Lopez John Lopez Beverley Love Bob Maher Norma Main Danny McKinney Joe Mentock Sue Merchant Opal Milburn David Moon Pat Mooney Cynthia Morgan Marie Morrill Everett Myhre Norma Schilling Dave Scollard Howard Shrum Tee Neighbors Harold Newbrough Elva Newcomer Michelle Oatts Stan Obermuellcr Shirley Oltion Linda Siebert Pat Silla Pat Simpkins Paul Smith Alfred Stevens Mary Stiles Tim Orr Jim Overseth Donna Painter Loretta Pendergraft Jack Pilch Garrad Powell Jill Strehlow Tom Stout Judy Stroup Sue Stroup Sylvia Sulik Valerie Symons and Graduation in 1964 Richard Puett Janls Puzuhanich Mary Ann Quintana Chuck Redder Sandra Iteisch Jim Rhodes Connie Rice Dorothyr Riley Mary Riley Betty Ross Karen Rotellini Jean Kucki Dave Ruff Jim Sabo Dick Schwartz Leah Taylor Carol Terry Dewitt Terry Loran Williams Jim Wilson Wendy West rick Darlene Wood Bob Yager Emma Veach Gerald Wantulok Gary Way Steve Will Judy Williams MR. One girl and one boy in each class are chosen every month. First, the teachers submit ballots which list several names of their students who they believe have earned this honor. They are then voted on by the Student Council. The ballots are then counted by a committee. The students are chosen on the basis of participation in class and school activities as well as grades. This honor should be strived for by all. Those who achieve it should be proud and work to receive it again. FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Patty B. ACTIVITIES What would a school be like without the excitement of the activities and organizations. These activities and organizations provide much to develop a well rounded person. We learn to accept victory humbly and defeat graciously. Good sportsmanship has become a trait which we are all striving for. It is through the help of the faculty that we have our varied organizations; for each club has at least one sponsor who provides the guidance and extra help needed. Sometimes these sponsors and coaches are overlooked or taken for granted, but certainly all of us agree that they deserve the biggest share of the credit and our sincere thanks. Sheridan High takes great pride in being-outstanding in the athletic field and organizations. These are an important part of school life and it is important that they remain that way, and through the help provided us by our teachers, just enough emphasis will be put on these activities and organizations to be a great profit to the school and students. 83 ROW ONE: Walt Takach, Rudy Pearson, Harlen Rasmussen, Jim Buckingham, Keith Hassey. Are Fun and Exciting For All That Take Part The homecoming activities actually got under way when the Broncs elected their Queen and attendants. With the crowning of Ginger as Queen and Ginny and Pat as her attendants, Friday afternoon, activities moved into full swing. The snake dance followed the crowning ceremonies, then the atmosphere changed as everyone began to gear up for the game that night. A Plainsmen effigy goes up in smoke. The Broncs kept up with the Plainsmen from Laramie, for the first half. The second half was a different story as the Plainsmen pulled away from the Broncs. A discouraged Bronc team left the field. The Homecoming Dance was the climax of the events. It was a gala event for all those that took part. As the dance ended so ended another homecoming at S.H.S. These students are having a fun time as did all those who attended the dance alter the game. 102 These students seem to be having a gooci time at the first sock dance held after school. Sue How would you feel if your brother's companion was a six foot rabbit? This is the problem Mrs. Simmons had to contend with in her life. It was bad enough that Elwood had Harvey for a companion but he did not have to introduce him to everyone. When Mrs. Simmons went to have her brother committed to a hospital, the doctor made a mistake as to who needed the treatment, and they committed Mrs. Simmons. The events that followed were hilarious and true to life. This play is not just the story of a silly little man and his imaginary rabbit, but it is the story of mankind - each with his own peculiarity, and each with his own Harvey. 124 Ebzery Judge Gaffney Bob Galbraith Perhaps they neglected to tell you that a rabbit has large pointed ears! That a hat for a rabbit would have to be perforated to make room for those ears. “The Eve of St. Mark” I've talked to other girls who have brothers in the camps and they say that is is so different. The Eve of St. Mark, a two act play, is a war drama. The war came sweeping through the country disrupting everything, even the quiet farm life of the Ralph West family. Entrance is based on a ten-point system, and these points may be earned by appearing in a production, working on make-up, or being on the stage crew. Two banquets are held each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. At these banquets the new members must present skits displaying their talent which will make them worthy members. Under the stern, guiding hand of Mr. Don Swanson, the Thespians have presented two successful plays this year. The first production was a comedy and on the other extreme was a dramatic war story. In the two years that Mr. Swanson has been at Sheridan High School, he has gained the respect and admiration of everyone. FIRST ROW: Left to Right, Sue Miltner,Treasurer: Marilyn Bell. We placed first and second in extemporaneous speaking at the state meet. We also placed second in poetry interpretation. Nels Nelson rated a superior in discussion and Bill Vehnekamp and John Greenfield were in the state debate finals. All in all we should be very proud of our debaters. Preparing for an important debate. Mr. Swanson supervises our Sheridan Debaters. It is with great appreciation that we thank these downtown merchants. We are well aware of the fact that these mer- chants put out a great deal of money for advertising, and we certainly consider it a privilege to have them advertise in our yearbook. These are the people that help make an account of a year at Sheridan High School possible, and again we would like to express our sincere thanks.
