'nf FERRIS MORRISON IM SIMMONS DAVE FERREN Delegates to Wonderful Wyoming Boys, Staten met from May 26-June 1 on the state fairgrounds at Douglas. Representing Sheridan were Rex Arney, Spike Coutis, Dave Ferren, Ferris Morrison, Ed Scott, Eugene Wright, and ,lim Simmons. Sponsors of these seven boys were Rotary, American Legion, Elks, American Legion, Kiwanis, Eagles, and Lions, respectively. These boys were chosen on the basis of their scholastic, leadership, and citizenship qualities. While in Douglas, the boys learned of their duties, privileges, and responsibilities as future builders and leaders of America. They composed many printable and some unprintable bills in the House and Senate. The court members got a taste of court proceedings in the cases that they tried. The escapades, both serious and whimsical, of 150 boys filled one week at Boys, State ith lasting memories. EDDIE SCOTT EUGENE WRIGHT igfffffffw MMgaWf,..z21 . Mfggjfywm Two boys received the honor of being elected to their desired office at Boys' State. Spike Coutis was elected chief justice of the Supreme Court and Rex Arney was chosen U. S. Representative. These two boys 'both received another honor. Spike was awarded a scholarship to the University of Wyoming and Rex was named a Boys' Natiop alternate. The Sheridan delegation was one to be proud of and represented our school and community well. 4' REX ARNEY SPIKE COUTIS

MARY CAE PORTER The fifteenth session of uwonderful Wyoming Girls, State was held on the state fairgrounds at Douglas from ,lune 9 to 15. Sheridan was repre- sented by seven girls4Kathie Owens, Karen Tomsik, Linda Robb, Barbara Schwartz, Molly Sampson, Mary Gae Porter, and JoAnn Legoski. These girls were chosen on the basis of their qualities of char- acter, leadership, scholarship, physical fitness, hon- esty, and cooperativeness, by the following co- organizations-American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Zonta Club, Business and Professional Womenls Club, Chapters A, AB, and T, of PEO, Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, BPO Does, Eagles Auxiliary, A.A.U.W., Sheridan Women's Club, high division of Women's Club, Elks Lodge, and Lions Club. The girls were divided into two parties, the Fron- tier and the Pioneer, signifying the national political parties. The House, Senate, and Court were the three branches of the government in which the girls were placed. State and national governmental procedures were taught. The girls had their serious and amus- ing memories by which to remember their week at Girls' State. 572 M70 al In the primary and general elections, state officers were chosen by the girls. Kathie Owens was elected justice of the Supreme Court. The 1957 Secretary of State was Molly Sampson. Girls' Nation delegates were also chosen by the girls and Molly was named an alternate to this national meeting. Good sports- manship outshown defeat in all the elections. FY
