Last year saw a drastic change in the governing body of Sheridan High. The Student Council, usually composed of a representative from each home room. was made up of class representatives. Each class except the freshmen took out petitions the spring before and then elected their quota of memhersfsix seniors, six juniors, and four sophomores. The freshmen sent two representatives the second semester. Wheli school opened in the fall, the Student Council was ready to go! They hegan the year by participating in the Freshman Orientation. Together with members of the Honor Society several council members gave welcoming speeches informing the incoming freshmen about S.H.S. and its activities. The tree which decorated the lower hall during the Christ- mas season was purchased by this organiza- tion. Under the leadership of Miss John- son the body governed the school in an able manner throughout the year. Serving as a link between the students and the faculty, the group was one of both govern- ment and leadership. ' Www ' treasurer: Kathie Owens. secretaryg and Dave Ferren, v Selections to National Honor Society is the highest honor a high school student can receive. Members are chosen by a student- faculty vote at elections held every spring and fall. Character, scholarship, leadership, and service are taken into consideration. First semester officers are Gene Wright, president: Karen Tomsik. Leroy Westika, vice president: Molly Sampson, treasurer: Rex ice president. Arney, president: and Harriet Teich. secretary, are the second semester officers. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY X! tg Q5 Only the upper one-third of the junior and senior classes are eligible and from that group only a certain per cent of each class is elected. The spring election includes only members of the outgoing junior class as well as members of the graduating senior class, while the fall election is open only to seniors.
