The decision that this nation was to be a free nation for every man was a radical idea, and an American ideal, and one to which we have clung and devoted our energies and our talents and pinned our hopes down to this very hour. The promise of America lies in the continued acceptance of this goal by the gen- eration of Americans now in our schools. Your opportunities to serve yourself and your nation better have been made possible by this American ideal. Your responsibilities are correspondingly great. It is our hope at S.H.S. that we have given you the opportunity to prepare yourself, and that you will prove worthy of our confidence. HY., , s 9 .Qi if :V viii i ggi? ' - Nm' 6 5 'X A X .- fig ?' Concentration l l Veni, Vidi, Vici The study of the language we speak should bring to any high school student an appreciation of the beauty of the English language, a knowledge of the correct use of words, and a desire to develop the ability to express his thoughts clearly and forcibly. English should help a student to prepare his other lessons, to secure a good position after graduation, and to make him feel at ease in any of his social contacts. The study of Latin has the following objectives-to increase ability in the use of English by practice in translationg to develop an historical and cultural background of the Roman people, to develop mental habits of accuracy, thoroughness, and logical thinking. Spanish gives one a personal satisfaction of being able to speak and read another language. lts knowledge contributes to international neighborliness by bringing an understanding of the customs and ideals of the Latin Americas and Spain, and by in- terpreting them to others. 5,11 cial J-lamfrs Gretchen Hartwig was awarded a radio-phonograph combination for being selected the state winner of the Voice of Democracy contest, which was sponsored by Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the Radio- Television Manufacturers Association. The Colt Football Team had a very full season this year with games scheduled against Buffalo, Billings, Casper and Gillette. Due to a combination of the excellent instruction received from Coaches Lillibridgc, Straley, and Ayers, and the valuable experience received in this year's contests it can be expected that many of these fine players will be seen on the Bronc Football Squad of next year. The score of this year's games were as follows: Buffalfl --A'ff--- -,--,-f, 1 9 Sheridan ,,,, 13 Billings -a4sss--s .,,.ssss 3 2 Sheridan V.,eeee 13 CHSPCY ----' Sheridan ,r,e,, 0 Billings l--,-. ,.ll.. t 0 Sheridan eeeev., 52 Gillette -f---' -f--, i .13 Sheridan ,ee, , 0 SHERIDAN vs BILLINGS Final Score Sheridan tt,tt,,tt, 7. .. The Colt basketball group, who are the future Broncs, is composed of Freshmen and Sophomores. This year they were somewhat hampered by several of the more promising Sophomores being graduated to the Broncs. Nevertheless, under the able guidance of Coach Maurice Lodge they made a creditable showing against formidable opponents. The Colts play 'sB', teams of Buffalo and Gillette as well as numerous Class UC, teams in northern Wyoming. ln this manner they receive necessary exper- ience for their future basketball years.
