Tiie offense consisted of a strong passing attack. The Hoxie Indians gave Hoxie the best record since 1959 when the Indians turned in a 5-4 record. This year the Indians had a 4-5 season. The season’s opener gave the Indians big hopes to start the season, as they downed Hill City 18-7. The Indians won a close game with Atwood with an extra point setting the margin between the teams. The 20-19 win gave the Indians back the hopes they had at the first of the season. The Indians' 20-0 win over Oakley put them in a tie for fourth place in the NWKL. This was the first game since 1958 that Hoxie beat Oak- ley or shut out any team. Honors for the Indians came with Wayne Mountford receiving all-area and all-NWKL end, and Fred Moss receiving second team all-NWKL quarterback. The Hoxie Indians enjoyed one of their all-time best sea- sons as they broke three school records, placed third in the NWKL meet, and sent five athletes to the state meet at Salina. Richard Johnson, junior sprinter, smashed Bernard Launchbaugh's 100 yard dash record established back in 1933 of :10.2 by running the century in :9.9 as he won the regional title at Colby. The mile relay team, pictured above, lowered the school record from 3:36.8 to 3:33.5 at the state meet in Salina. Other school marks established were in the two-mile run, a new event, and the medley relay. Jim Walden, Fred Moss, Wayne Mountford, and Harold Koster topped the medley mark with a 3:56.4 time in the league meet at Goodland. Sopho- more Richard Randolph established the new two-mile record with a time of 11:12.8 at the Hoxie Invitational. Some other fine performances turned in during the season included Bob Anderson's 141’ 11 1 2 discus throw, Walden's 20' 3 broad jump, Randolph's 4:54.8 mile run, Johnson's :22.9 220 yard dash, and the 880 relay team's 1:35.3. All of these marks are within striking distance of school records and all of the individuals mentioned will return next year. The head track coach was Rick Urban and his assistant was Don Griffin. R.
